This piece continues the Breakout Performance Series which hopes to assist local high school athletes in gaining recruitment traction. It also attempts to provide helpful analysis for scouts and collegiate level programs nationwide to assist in their recruiting efforts.
2022 5’1 PG [player_tooltip player_id="137223" first="Naila" last="Newman"] – Rockville – Team Sol
Naila and her sister Nia are set to take the state of Maryland by storm next year for their Senior season. This dynamic tandem already proved their dominance this past Spring and there’s zero doubt that they will only improve from here. [player_tooltip player_id="137223" first="Naila" last="Newman"] is one of the top facilitators in the state and the reason is her vision. She sees plays develop before they happen and it is through her incredible basketball IQ and skill that they do happen. Naila is equally capable of scoring the ball inside at a high level and her shooting is solid all around. She also defends very well and she accounted for a lot of steals this past season. Scouts and collegiate programs everywhere should all pay close attention to Naila’s upcoming season because it is sure to be another breakout one.
2022 5’6 SF [player_tooltip player_id="137238" first="Nia" last="Newman"] – Rockville – Team Sol
[player_tooltip player_id="137238" first="Nia" last="Newman"], like her sister, is also extremely dominant on the basketball court. Her defense and rebounding skills are already next level, and we must mention her tenacious shot-blocking. The main aspect of her game that you notice when you watch Nia is her overall hustle and leadership. She always double teams and sets screens at proper moments, and she is largely responsible for a lot of the hard work that gets done on the court for her team. Nia truly completes the Newman sister tandem in spectacular fashion and she is absolutely an elite division one recruit who needs to be noticed by everyone. The dynamic Newman sister duo is as exciting as any sibling duo in DMV sports and it will be more than exciting to watch them dominate together on the court this upcoming season.
2022 5’9 G [player_tooltip player_id="137228" first="Danielle" last="Morgan"] – Frederick – One on None
[player_tooltip player_id="137228" first="Danielle" last="Morgan"] will average a double-double this upcoming season because of her spectacular rebounding and ability to score in transition. There’s probably not a better overall defender than Danielle in the state either. She’s truly dynamic, and when she is in the paint on either end of the court she is extremely effective and efficient. Danielle also gets multiple steals a game, and she herself rarely turns the ball over. The Frederick Cadets are primed for another huge breakout season this year and [player_tooltip player_id="137228" first="Danielle" last="Morgan"] will be a big reason for their success. She will certainly make an incredible impact wherever she is recruited to play at the next level.
2022 5’11 PF [player_tooltip player_id="137234" first="Emi" last="Marshall"] – Sidwell Friends
Sidwell Friends could potentially make a run at GEICO Nationals in 2022 and [player_tooltip player_id="137234" first="Emi" last="Marshall"] will have a huge overall impact on the Quakers’ run this season. Emi has some of the best scoring post moves for anybody at this level, and her defense is off the charts. She also plays with incredible heart which seems to always rub off on her teammates in a positive way. If Emi can continue her dominant play in the post and maintain her leadership role on the team then there is no stopping the Sidwell Friends Fighting Quakers this year.
