Yeah talent is everywhere and Texas is huge yet the more I see, the more I understand why that area is still producing the types of players that fall into the #THROWBACK era yet still fall somewhat Under The Radar, until now as I see more and more are venturing out to be seen and I’m happy they are
2022
Zeni Purge-5’10 SG/SF (JBS 17U Gauntlet) Heritage HS CA
Purge is listed on Orange under this number, since no 21 was on Gauntlet, I’m keeping it moving like it is her so long and athletic is the base yet her timing stood out as she deflected and blocked several shots and she did good job rebounding, especially on the offensive end for putbacks
Junae’ Mahan-5’9 CG (JBS 17 U Gauntlet) Lincoln HS CA
Mahan handled the ball well under pressure and did it in the open court going C2C yet her pinpoint passes going full speed as well as showing she could drop the jumper was nice
Ileana Molina-5’2 PG (Texas Hoops 2022) Median Valley HS
Molina impresses me every time I saw her, she is the image featured and as you can see her point in the picture, she directs traffic to the tee but she also controls the tempo and what I really loved was her being VOCAL on the floor as she definitely gets it and that also means quick hands for steals but her hustling and ability to attack and finish has me dropping the hashtag #sizedontmatter because she can play
2023
Asia Johnson-5’4 PG (Oklahoma Lady Trotters Elite) Putnam City HS OK
Johnson impresses me off the court with her expressions yet on the court, she does the same thing as her fire trickles down to her teammates, and watching her ignite them with her energy is something because she can push the ball and see the floor as well as drop the mid to long-range, yet can also slow it down and run sets
Hollie Ladd-5’8 SG/SF (Oklahoma Lady Trotters Elite) Seminole HS OK
Ladd has a very nice first step and this enables her to get by the defender with ease yet when she attacks she attacks strongly and finishes the same way
Marcelina Chaparro-5’8 CG (Mustangs) Manteca HS OK
Chaparro handled the ball well under pressure, in the set or on the break but she also saw the floor going full speed and that set her teammates up for easy baskets but she also attacked and finished several times, after the lick
Tiedra Snipes-6’0 SF/PF (Mustangs) Edison HS OK
Snipes showed some nifty moves around the rim, I really liked the “up and under” over and over yet she also understands how to use her size to get in the mix to rebound, on both ends of the floor
Vivienne Hill-5’10 SF (Mavs Elite STRONG-Creed) OK
Hill will be climbing exactly that as she uses her body nicely to finish on the inside, her putbacks after the offensive rebound were very ice yet she also took defenders off the dribble to score and she showed the jumper
Allyson Ferguson-6’2 SF/PF (Texas Southern Flames) Manvel HS
Ferguson gave me my first look at her this season, she’s long and athletic, has made my Tip Sheet before and I mentioned her upside was nice, and it is turning out to be as she’s aggressive in the paint, battles for rebounds, and does a good job defending, this includes blocking shots
Stevi Lockhart-5’10 CG (Hoop 10 Premier) Sudan HS
Lockhart showed some LOCK-DOWN defense but after all, she’s long and athletic and plays the passing lane yet she also has a very nice pull-up jumper
Bobbie Fouquet-5’11 SG (Hoop 10 Premier) Claude HS
Fouquet has “green light” in her notes which equates to she can let it go whenever she wants and rightfully so because she was among the best long-range shooters I caught on opening day yet her being “long and athletic” was a definite plus because “college coaches love big guards that can shoot” let me add consistently but she also rebounds and defends
Bailey Henderson-5’10 SF/PF (Lady Stangs Black) Van Alstyne HS
Henderson created her shot nicely under pressure and showed she could get it off whenever she wanted, check her size, that’s no surprise but her mid to long-range was definitely an eye-opener
Zoey Venrick-5’6 PG (Texas Platinum 16U Jones) Crandall HS
Venrick closes out this session with me observing her handling the ball under pressure, controlling the tempo, and being heady, which are all good yet that good is elevated because she sees the floor and did a good job directing traffic
