GlenOak’s Golden Eagles

<span style="font-size: 12pt">One of Ohio’s top teams regardless of division, the GlenOak Golden Eagles had an outstanding year on their way to a Co-Federal League championship, state final 4 appearance and 23-3 overall record. GlenOak, who defeated Akron St. Vincent St. Mary’s, North Canton Hoover, Elyria Catholic, Solon and Canton McKinley – among other good programs – boasts as much depth as any school that you will find in Northeast Ohio. Many of these players will be returning for the 2019-2020 season.</span> <p style="text-align: center"><span style="font-size: 12pt">Let’s take a look at some of GlenOak’s talented underclassmen.</span></p> <span style="font-size: 12pt"><strong>McKenzie Green – 6’0 – Class of 2020    </strong></span> <span style="font-size: 12pt">A transfer from nearby North Canton Hoover, McKenzie really settled into her own as the season went on. A bench player, who possesses the talent of a starter and earn the minutes to show it, McKenzie is instant offense. She is very comfortable in the low post, where she loves to go to her patented left-handed sweeping hook shot. A tremendous mid-range shooter, McKenzie is getting better from the 3-point line as well – where she stepped out and made her fair share of attempts this season. (Photo credit: Canton Repository)</span>[/caption] <span style="font-size: 12pt"><strong>Addison Mucci – 5’2 – Class of 2020 </strong></span> <span style="font-size: 12pt">A true point guard, Addison is the un-questioned heart and soul of this very successful GlenOak squad. As their primary ball-handler, she faces a number of pressure defenses and outstanding athletes on a nightly basis during a tough Federal League schedule. Throughout her junior year, she rarely showed signs of being flustered or uncomfortable. It’s tough for opposing guards to keep Addison in front of them and she knows that, as she is constantly attacking the heart of the defense and making plays for her teammates.</span> <span style="font-size: 12pt"><strong>Aniyah Hall – 6’0 – Class of 2021 </strong></span> <span style="font-size: 12pt">A great athlete who does a majority of her damage around the rim – Hall is as good as anyone in the transition game. She does an outstanding job of attacking the boards and putting pressure on the defense for 32 minutes. Aniyah shows flashes of being an elite defender who can guard a number of positions – fitting in a variety of schemes. If she commits herself to developing any type of consistent jumper – the sky is the limit for her.</span> <span style="font-size: 12pt"><strong>Lexi Lemire – 5’3 – Class of 2020 </strong></span> <span style="font-size: 12pt">At times, it would be easy for the unfamiliar fan of GlenOak to lose track of Lexi in the shuffle of GlenOak’s frequent substitution patterns. She is not the flashiest of kids on her team, but is one of the most fundamentally sound and offensively skilled. Lexi is a very good shooter from the perimeter and also off of the dribble. She has no problem finishing around the rim with either hand. She rarely forces anything offensively and takes on her fair share of responsibility for stopping the other team’s best offensive players when she is in the game.</span> [caption id="attachment_33994" align="alignleft" width="205"] <span style="font-size: 12pt">Hayley Smith had an outstanding 2018-2019 season after missing her sophomore year with an ACL injury. (Photo credit: Canton Repository)</span>[/caption] <span style="font-size: 12pt"><strong>Haylee Smith – 6’0 - Class of 2020 </strong><strong>               </strong></span> <span style="font-size: 12pt">Haylee returned for a strong 2018-2019 season after missing all of 2017-2018 with an ACL injury. Those who believe that the second year back after an ACL is the best year during the rehab process should be excited about Haylee’s senior year, as her first year back was very productive. A true 6 footer with the ability to play with her back to the basket, Haylee provides a shot blocking presence that fits in well with GlenOak’s tendency to pressure the ball all over the floor. She moves very well for a girl her size.</span> <span style="font-size: 12pt"><strong>Erica Warren – 5’8 – Class of 2020  </strong></span> <span style="font-size: 12pt">Erica’s combination of size, strength and quickness is impressive. It is incredible to watch her sky for a strong rebound and then take the ball the length of the court and finish in traffic. She is physically tough and looks much more mature than the average kid her age. She could be an absolute steal for a college or university who can afford to let her develop without the pressure of contributing immediately.</span>
