To start off the 2021-2022 season coverage I was able to watch the Bad Boy Classic that took place at Izard County High School. I didn’t see this game in person, but I was able to watch it online through the school’s YouTube page. Here are the players that stood out for both teams.
Brinley Morgan | G | 2022 | Rural Special High School
Brinley handled the ball vs pressure in the half-court and was able to weave through the defense in the open court. She did a good job of changing directions to get to where she wanted to on the floor to make plays. Brinley could create off the bounce and get into a mid-range pull-up jumper or use her vision to make a pass to a teammate. You also can’t leave her unattended on the perimeter because she showed she could make the catch and shoot three-pointer.
Kylen Stevens | Forward | 2023 | Rural Special High School
Kylen played tough and hard during this game. She drew a lot of attention when she would flash to the high post. If the defense didn’t get to her in time she would make the catch and shoot mid-range jumper around the elbow. When posting up on the low block she would be big and wide and did a really good job of sealing off her defender.
Ansley Dawson | Wing | 2023 | Tuckerman High School
Ansley played real hard this game. She gave great effort on both ends of the floor. Defensively she anticipates when playing off the ball which leads to deflections and steals. When the shot goes up she would attack the glass aggressively to get the rebound. When the ball is in her hands she can attack off the dribble and make plays for herself or her teammates. She did a good job of making on-target passes to the post player for the easy finish off penetration.
Kenadi Gardner | G | 2022 | Tuckerman High School
Kenadi is another Tuckerman player that came with a lot of energy and effort. Defensively she guarded the ball well. She used her quick hands on defense to cause problems for the ball handler. Offensively she excelled in the open court. She could really push it in transition and have the body control and footwork to sidestep a defender to finish at the rim without traveling or picking up a charge.
MacKenzie Soden | G | 2023 | Tuckerman High School
When MacKenzie goes to the basket you can bet she is going to go strong to the basket. She’s not going to shy away from the contact. She made a tough basket while playing through contact and drawing the foul for the “and 1” opportunity. Once she has the ball you can’t back off of her either. She showed she can make the catch and shoot three-pointer or make the three off the dribble.
