At 5’4, Hendricks brings a calm, patient stle of player to the court for a point guard. She looks to get her teammates involved and has terrific court vision and playmaking skills.
“I would rather get an assist then score.” she says. “My defense is really good and aggressive. I would say that I’m an all around active player.”
Hendricks says the Trojans put together a special season as they went 23-2 overall and placed second in Kansas 6A.
“Our chemistry was great … even though we didn’t win (state), I could not be more proud of my team as well as of Washburn Rural,” Hendricks said. “This year two Topeka teams made it to the state. We made our city proud.”
Hendricks says she is focused on improving her overall game, including scoring the ball.
“I feel like I’m strong in the other areas when it comes to assist and defense,” she says. “But there is always room for improvement with my whole game.”
Hendricks says her travel team coach Darold Smith has had the biggest influence on her basketball career to date.
“He is an amazing coach,” Hendricks said. “I wouldn’t be at the level I’m at right now if it wasn’t for him. But all my coaches from middle school on up has been great influences to my game including my step dad, Antwaun Jones.”
A fan of up-and-coming Murray State point guard Ja Morant, Hendricks says she likes the way he controls the game.
“When he plays he just controls the flow and the tempo of the game and this season I have tried to do the same,” she says.
Hendricks says Smith has fielded several calls from various college programs.
“I have received emails from colleges about academics such as Wichita University, Susquehanna University and more,” she says.
I also have been invited to a student summer program at Duke University.”
