Erin Fahy (So.) – F, Cresskill
Fahy has steadily become a premier forward in the region for Cresskill, coming a long way this year from her production as a freshman. She’s been more aggressive around the net, which has resulted in a significant increase in points and rebounds per game. She’s utilized her frame in a much more dominant way that’s allowed her to take up more space in the lane and defend shots more easily. Fahy is easily one of the best up-and-coming shot-blockers in North Jersey right now.
Jayleen Valera (Jr.) – SF, Paterson Eastside
Valera showed consistency the past several seasons, but looks like a more composed and confident player this season. You can see it in her play style, which is not overpowering opponents in scoring, but instead, playing a complete game as a forward. She’s shown the ability to be a potential double-digit rebounder and she’s developed into a much better scorer with a more complete shooting range. Valera is quietly having a solid season for Eastside.
Brynn McCurry Brynn McCurry 6'1" | PF Sparta | 2023 State NJ (Jr.) – 6-1 F/G, Sparta
McCurry is just 18 points away from reaching the 1000 point club for Sparta as a junior and there’s a big reason behind her overall success. Standing at 6-1, she’s been a monster in the interior, often creating mismatches with opponents to give her more scoring opportunities. Along with that, McCurry has consistently improved her defense and her passing, which is her most underrated trait as a player. She’s aiming for potential triple-double averages this season if all goes well.
Joi Johnson Joi Johnson 5'11" | PF Ewing | 2024 State NJ (So.) – 5-11, PF/SF, Ewing
Johnson hasn’t stopped her overall dominance since the beginning of her freshman year and has turned the dial up to 11 so far this season for Ewing. The forward is a top-5 shot-blocker in the state, using fantastic court awareness to stop shots. Johnson is an agile and energetic forward and it shows through her shot-blocking, which is even more dominant than last season. With more consistency on offense, she’ll be an All-Conference selection by season’s end.
Gabriella Torrillo (Fr.) – G, Secaucus
Secaucus has gotten off to a blistering 7-0 start thanks in large part to the play of Torrillo, a freshman guard who is quickly getting eyes on her play. She’s a confident guard who already has shown a high IQ for the game and she’s found ways to get into the lane easily for more efficient scoring opportunities. Her rebounding has stayed consistent and her defense has picked up in recent games as she’s learned the defensive schemes more. Watch out for her passing as Torrillo is great at finding open teammates on the floor on offense.
