Middlesex – 6-2 overall
After a tough 58-48 loss to East Brunswick, Middlesex got back on the winning track on Tuesday with a dominant 62-28 win over Mother Seton. Middlesex has been an impressive offensive team when they win, scoring 56.7 PPG in wins compared to 43.0 PPG in their two losses this season. While the Bluejays hit a bump in the road last week, the performances of guards Neysa Aguilar and Jessica DeVine have carried this team, especially the freshman DeVine. Senior center Madison Robel is nearly averaging a double-double so far this season as well.
Perth Amboy Tech – 4-1 overall
Tech hasn’t had the luck of playing as many games as others in the GMC, but they currently ride a four-game winning streak after back-to-back wins against East Brunswick Tech. The most recent of those wins was a 44-31 victory on Tuesday. The Patriots have scored 42.3 PPG as an offense during this winning streak and have defeated opponents by at least 12 points in their last three-straight. Junior Amanda Batista has led Tech during this run, most recently with an 18-point performance in Tuesday’s win.
St. Thomas Aquinas – 7-0 overall
It’s been a perfect run to start the 2021-22 season for the Trojans, who sit 7-0 after a 25-point victory over J.P. Stevens on Tuesday. St. Thomas Aquinas has put on a scoring clinic so far this season, averaging 64.9 PPG while playing a high-tempo style of offense. It’s benefitted them tremendously as three players currently are posting double-digit scoring averages. Junior forward Jessica Cooper leads the way for the Trojans, averaging 15.7 PPG and 11.6 RPG so far.
East Brunswick – 9-2 overall
East Brunswick has turned into a contender this season, improving to 9-2 after a close 58-50 win over South Brunswick on Tuesday. The Bears are currently tied for second in GMC’s Red division behind St. Thomas Aquinas. Junior forward Tamea El, who is having a breakout season of her own, led East Brunswick with 15 points in Tuesday’s win. El has been the leading scorer for the Bears the entire year and senior guard Sam Lederman is just behind her in scoring. That one-two punch has set this team up well for the second half of the year.
Colonia – 11-2 overall
The Patriots are 11-1 in their last 12 games after an opening-season loss and are currently riding a four-game winning streak after 46-13 win over Carteret on Tuesday. On this current winning streak, Colonia has limited its opponents to 23.5 PPG, not allowing more than 35 points in a game and has won by a margin of 23.3 PPG in those four games. Mattison Chiera Mattison Chiera 5'10" | CG Colonia | 2023 State NJ led the Patriots with 12 points in Tuesday’s win and is one of two Colonia players, along with Taylor Derkack Taylor Derkack 6'0" | SF Colonia | 2024 State NJ , who have scored more than 10.0 PPG during this winning streak.
