1. Ewing is once again the team to beat in the CVC
Two years ago, Ewing was a .500 program trying to find its footing, but in the past two seasons, the Blue Devils are 22-1, including a 9-1 record so far this season. Ewing got back to winning ways on Tuesday after a crushing loss against Saddle River Day, defeating Hamilton West, 77-25. This team has scored 70+ points in five of its last eight games and is the best of the best in the CVC, currently 4-0 in divisional play.
2. Robbinsville is slowly finding its footing
It’s been an up-and-down season so far for Robbinsville as through six games, the Ravens were 3-3. However, two wins in their last three games has gotten this team above .500 at 5-4. A 43-24 win over Princeton on Tuesday got the Ravens back over the .500 mark. In divisional play, Robbinsville has been fantastic, with a 4-1 record. Senior forward Becky Blitz had her best game of the season in the win on Tuesday, with a season-high 14 points.
3. Isabella Benitez has been the glue keeping Highstown together
The senior guard had a career day in a 59-23 win over Steinert, putting up 20 points, five rebounds, three assists and two steals. Benitez has shown constant improvement in her game over the past three seasons on varsity and has become a more confident and composed player. We’ve seen it in her numbers as she’s averaging 7.8 PPG, 6.4 RPG and 2.3 SPG through 12 games. If she can string together more performances like Tuesday, she’ll be looking a possible double-digit points average on the year.
4. Allentown hopes to string more wins together after Tuesday’s performance
Allentown has had a rough go of things to begin the season after an impressive 11-2 record in the spring, but the Redbirds ended a two-game losing streak on Tuesday. Allentown got back to .500 with a 46-24 win over Hopewell Valley. All four wins have been defensive masterclasses for the Redbirds, allowing just 21.5 PPG in wins. The more that Allentown can clamp down on opponents and get its offense going, the more wins it will be able to string together in the second half of the year.
5. There’s a three-person race for CVC Player of the Year and all three are on Ewing
The reason why this Ewing team has been so dominant this season is thanks to the play of a three-headed monster that is arguably unmatched anywhere else in the state. Sophomores Rhian Stokes Rhian Stokes 5'8" | PG Ewing | 2024 State NJ , Joi Johnson Joi Johnson 5'11" | PF Ewing | 2024 State NJ and Te’Yala Delfosse are averaging a combined 50.8 PPG so far this season, with Stokes leading the way in scoring at 19.0 PPG. There’s no stopping the Blue Devils when those three are firing at all cylinders.
