East Coast United (ECU) hosted an evaluation on Sunday, March 6 at Palm Bay High School in Melbourne, FL. I spent the afternoon speaking with evaluators, coaches, and players about the program and some of the players that will be with ECU this summer. Here were some of the top players I saw from the class of 2023/2024:
[player_tooltip player_id="352553" first="Roksana" last="Sajdak"] | 2023
The Polish phenom showcased D1 talent the entire day as a player who is new on the Florida scene. She gave me major Rus Ausgustinaite (Montverde) vibes with a combination of their looks, length, skill, and that European game. Roksana had some really crafty handles and moves that led to some tough buckets. She’s a tremendous shooter who showed a lot of elevation and athleticism to finish when she put it on the floor.
[player_tooltip player_id="247154" first="Yakiya" last="Milton"] | 2023
You can’t teach height and length, and Yakiya is in the top percentile in both of those. I really liked her energy on Sunday as she attacked the glass and controlled the boards. She’s able to hit the outside shot or get to the rim with some good handles for her height. I know she already has some nice offers, and I’m sure more are on their way.
[player_tooltip player_id="247123" first="Alex" last="Merceron"] | 2023
Alex has a lot of quickness that turns into speed as she gets going. She doesn’t run out of energy on either side of the court and stays low to the ground to take care of the ball. I liked her athleticism and ability to finish with some shot adjustments at the basket.
[player_tooltip player_id="352597" first="Katelynn" last="Hagy"] | 2023
Katelynn reminded me a lot of Addi Potts (S Ft Myers) with her build and her high release with similar form. She showed good court awareness and slashed hard through the lane. She’s a lethal scorer who has some serious range with a pretty shot.
[player_tooltip player_id="247118" first="Sophia" last="Rueppell"] | 2023
Sophia is a smooth combo guard with a lot of confidence and swagger. She has good handles, shoots it well, and controls the pace of the game. I really like her energy and her game as well as her ability to make her teammates look and play better.
[player_tooltip player_id="91661" first="Chariot" last="Johnson"] | 2023
Chariot is a fantastic athlete and never takes a play off at either end. She’s the definition of a team player, but she can take over and get to the basket to create with an acrobatic finish or dish. Her energy, outside shot, and positive attitude just make her that much better for her coaches and teammates.
[player_tooltip player_id="247204" first="Lynn" last="Rieth"] | 2023
This was my first time getting eyes on Lynn, and I was really impressed. She was really smooth and had a pretty stroke from deep. Lynn moved well without the ball, got everyone involved, and played hard and fast.
[player_tooltip player_id="219923" first="Kiara" last="Williams"] | 2024
Kiara has a strong frame that allows her to finish strong at the rim through contact. She does a great job of using her body and shoulders to control the paint, create space around the basket, and protect the glass on both ends. She’s able to hit those 15 footers, but she’s a menace in the lane as a top post player in her class.
[player_tooltip player_id="248345" first="Clare" last="Coyle"] | 2024
Clare is always out there making the right play. She plays hard and smart with a lot of toughness which is exactly what a teammate and coach want. CC is a threat at all three levels with strong fundamentals and she’s really strong around the basket, too.
[player_tooltip player_id="349273" first="Nyla" last="Patrizio"] | 2024
Nyla is one of those true posts with good size that you don’t see as much anymore. She was snagging rebounds and showed off some good hands/touch on Sunday. I liked her awareness to space the floor and her strength to grab boards and get tough shots up.
[player_tooltip player_id="217663" first="Sydney" last="Roundtree"] | 2024
Sydney has a next level frame that looks ready for the next level already. I like her tenacity on defense and the athleticism she shows on both ends. She can do a little bit of everything and still has a couple years left to reach her high potential.
Special Mention:
[player_tooltip player_id="166170" first="Alonya" last="Waldon"] and [player_tooltip player_id="219932" first="Jazmine" last="Major"] did a great job with the younger group as vocal leaders. These two seem like two peas in a pod, and they both have very high motors and are tough players. They are fun to watch compete at the highest level and will bring a lot to a team at the next level!
