With so many new prospects added and so many to go over, we wanted to split up the state once again into different regions. Here are the top five prospects form South Jersey in the 2023 class.
No. 1: Hannah Hidalgo Hannah Hidalgo 5'7" | PG Paul VI | 2023 State NJ – 5-6 PG, Paul VI
In terms of pure scorers in New Jersey, there might not be another player who is better than Hidalgo, who averaged 26.2 PPG as a junior, her second-straight season averaging 20.0 PPG. She can shoot the three when she’s open, but Hidalgo has operated best as a midrange shooter and post player. She drives the lane as well as anyone in the state and is masterful with the basketball in hand. There’s nothing stopping this superstar, especially this summer going into next season.
No. 4: Alexis Davis Alexis Davis 6'0" | SF Woodbury | 2023 State NJ – 6-0 SF, Woodbury
Davis is an incredibly gifted player who excels at every facet of the game. She’s a 6-0 forward who can shoot from range and dominate in the paint as well. Davis knocked down 1.5 three-pointers a game this season as well as 27/14 stats, averaging a double-double once again. She didn’t miss a beat after transferring from Glassboro and improved even further on her game. With double-doubles in 20 of her 22 games, there’s going to be no stopping her as a senior.
No. 9: Emma Peretti Emma Peretti 5'11" | PF Hammonton | 2023 State NJ – 5-11 PF, Hammonton
For the second-straight year, Peretti averaged a double-double and this year, she was able to take her game to the next level. She almost exclusively operates in the paint and she really found her stride against those in the Cape-Atlantic League. Peretti knows how to take advantage of mismatches, of which she found many this season. She was able to execute well, finish with ease at the rim and make opponents pay consistently.
No. 11: Kassidy Thompson Kassidy Thompson 5'9" | SG Camden Catholic | 2023 State NJ – 5-9 SG, Camden Catholic
Thompson has taken the reigns of this Camden Catholic program since transferring to the Irish in 2020. We saw her turn on the afterburners which it comes to scoring as she averaged a career-high 17.8 PPG and 1.6 made three-pointers a game. That combination, especially the uptick in three-point production, turned her into a nightmare to guard. She commands the ball well and just seems more poised than ever helping in running this Camden Catholic offense.
No. 12: Nir Nir Cherry-Montague Nir Nir Cherry-Montague 6'6" | PF Atlantic City | 2023 State NJ – 6-4 PF, Atlantic City
There aren’t many other players within the state that have the kind of raw talent and major upside that Cherry-Montague does. Much of that comes with her height, standing at 6-4 and having grown well into her size overall. She has a great grasp of the game and is naturally a stellar shot-blocker and rebounder. Her offense has come along really well and she can finish inside the lane much more comfortably. The biggest thing for Cherry-Montague is to stay consistent and stay agile.
