I have a saying I have been using for like, ever, well ever since I became involved in girl's basketball "it's not what you do, it's who you do it against" and I started that when my daughter was playing 17U in the 7th grade when everything was different so watching younger players show not only promise and potential against older players who are capable of playing at some level of the next level, I get an idea on what's coming and here are some freshmen that definitely left a lasting impression. [player_tooltip player_id="335922" first="KaMyra" last="Barber"] (Kansas Bluejays 2023) [player_tooltip player_id="309982" first="Sania" last="Richardson"] (BTR 2023) and [player_tooltip player_id="309980" first="Keeley" last="Parks"] (Team Trae Young 2023) all helped "set it off" as Friday's Top Performers to help open up the event, Mackenzie Lovett (Playmaker Express) stood out on day 2 while Skylar Durley (BTR 2023) sent several messages to close it out, but there were others I caught bits and pieces that stood out
Micaela Sifuentes (Pro Skills San Antonio)
Sifuentes was solid on both ends of the court, she created her shot nicely, dropped the pull-up jumper yet her on the ball defense was also good as she did what I love to see and that was "playing the passing lane"
Kayten Donley-6'0 SF (Team Buddy Buckets 2023)
Donley is "long and athletic" and as I close this event's coverage, that will always be the base but her timing to block, alter, and (or) deflect got me going, not as much as her playing the passing lane did but she also scored both off the dribble and on putbacks, yes she rebounds on both ends
Meranda Switch-5'7 G (Oklahoma Aces 2023 Washington)
Switch definitely pulled one as she scored multiple ways dropping both the mid to long-range as well as scoring off the dribble yet she also scored on putbacks so that's a great combo but her upside is good, she understands the game and plays within herself and it helps she can create her shot under pressure
[player_tooltip player_id="315191" first="Diamond" last="Britt"]-5'4 G ( Oklahoma Aces 2023 Knight)
Britt is an athletic guard and she uses her athleticism well on both ends. She plays solid defense "on the ball" but she also did a good job setting the defender up to attack the basket to score or dish but her court vision in both the set and open court was nice as well
[player_tooltip player_id="331864" first="Josie" last="Megehee"]-5'9 G(Oklahoma Hotshots 2023)
Megehee showed quick hands and came away with some steals yet she also had a quick first step to attack the basket off the dribble yet her floater was one of the best I saw at the event, nice upside
[player_tooltip player_id="315202" first="Taryn" last="Jacobs"]-6'0 PF/C (Oklahoma Swift 2023)
Jacobs climbed the ladder with ease to rebound but she did something I don't see enough of in the culture and that's "follows her shot" so that, along with her rebounding not to leave out something else I don't see enough of, the drop step, definitely had my attention
Jaslene Howell-6'0 C/PF (Graham's Shooting Academy 2023) [2026]
Howell already has the college-ready frame and is putting together a nice college-ready game and at 6'2, she already understands the basics so her rebounding on both ends, scoring off of putbacks as well as god timing on defense are all impressive yet when you factor in she isn't in high school yet, her upside becomes scary
