Continue ReadingThe Ohio Girls Basketball Report has been known to run the top exposure events in the state of Ohio. On Friday, March 26th, OGBR held the Spring Special at the spacious Ohio Sports Plus facility in Cincinnati. On the eve of The Clash, over 70 college coaches packed the baseline to watch some of the region’s top talents. They certainly saw some good players throughout the day.
Let’s take a look at some of the 2021’s that stood out at the OGBR Spring Special.
Bree Hall continued to show why she is one of the top 2021’s in the country. (Photo Credit: S.O.O.G.H. media on Twitter)Bree Hall – 6’0 Guard – Huber Heights Wayne
Hall is a special talent who has yet to disappoint in big events like the Spring Special or The Clash. She has an infectious personality that draws her teammates and coaches to her. She flashed signs of her elite playmaking ability – turning situations where there was seemingly nothing there, into a wide open shot for her squad. She has the athleticism to finish over taller defenders in the paint.
Karli Anker – 5’7 Guard – Manchester
When taking into consideration the 3 HS sessions at the Spring Special, Anker was one of the top guards. She possesses top-notch court vision and puts her passes in spots where her teammates can make immediate scoring moves on the catch. She is great in the pick-and-roll. Good athleticism and on-ball defense. Karli rebounds well for a point guard.
Peyton Nation is a prospect with a high ceiling. She does a little bit of everything. (Photo Credit: Twitter)Peyton Nation – 5’10 Wing – Springboro
Nation guards the 1-4 spots at a high level. She is a tweener with a quick burst to the rim. Her long first step helps her create separation against smaller/quicker guards on the perimeter. Peyton finishes well around the rim with both hands.
Ryley Chambers – 5’11 Wing – Canfield
Chambers is someone who benefited tremendously from the exposure and competition in this event. A long wing with mismatch potential on the offensive end – Chambers started her game by making 5 3-pointers in a row. She also showed a number of good post moves. As her body continues to mature, she is a nice college prospect.
Kaybriana Hallman – 6’2 Post – East Kentwood (Michigan)
Hallman was one of the longest post players at the event. She is a big-time prospect who could turn into a Power-5 kid by the time that her career is over. She will be one of the top 15 players in Michigan next winter. Good rebounder and shot-blocker, Hallman has nice post moves and shows potential to develop a mid-range jumper. She should be able to add muscle to her wiry frame as she continues to develop.
Olivia Siealecki – 6’0 Wing – Jenison (Michigan)
Siealecki is an athletic wing who moves well without the ball. With deep range on her consistent 3-point jumper and outstanding footwork on her step back from the mid-range, Olivia was one of the premier shooters from the event. She creates additional offense by being effective on the offensive glass.
Nakiya Sigman was one of the breakout stars at the OGBR Spring Special in Cincinnati. (Photo Credit: The Lima News)Nakiya Sigman – 5’3 Guard – Lima
For those who weren’t familiar with Nakiya Sigman, they definitely left the Spring Special impressed. Small in stature, Sigman is as quick as it gets with the basketball in her hands. She has a devastating crossover and is top-notch at changing pace and direction. Nakiya is a good finisher at the rim, where she gets the ball on the glass before the shot-blocker comes over from help-side.
Taylor Starks – 5’2 Guard – Reynoldsburg
Taylor played very well throughout the entirety of her 64-minute game. She showed traits of a quality lead guard – poise, good ball-handling, high energy and the ability to knock down open shots. Starks communicated regularly with her coaches and teammates and never turned the ball over.
Brooklyn Troyer – 5’7 Guard – Waynedale
Brooklyn is a solid combo-guard who shot the ball extremely well from all 3 levels. She had some impressive wrong-hand and wrong-foot finishes in transition over more athletic defenders. She has a bounce and joy to her game that makes it easy to cheer for her – as she genuinely seems to enjoy playing basketball.
Grace Vermilya showed off an impressive array of post moves against some well-known kids. (Photo Credit: Ashland Times Gazette)Grace Vermilya – 5’11 Post – Loudonville
Although her game featured more “well-known” posts – Vermilya was dominant. She finished a handful of and-ones through contact and was perfect from the FT line. Not the most athletic kid on the block, Grace showed elite moves – with a variety of up-and-unders, step-throughs and drop-steps. Her off-hand (left-hand) moves are rare for a kid her age.
Skye Williams (pictured above) – 5’11 Guard – Pickerington Central
Across the entire Midwest region, Williams is one of the more well-known players in the Class of 2021. During her performance at the Spring Special, Williams displayed the handles and offensive creativity that she has displayed throughout her HS career. Although she didn’t shoot the ball well, Skye was clearly a top-talent from the event.
Bryanna Woodard – 5’11 Post – Summit Country Day
Woodard is a big and strong post from Cincinnati with a high skill level. She is a good passer whose team could easily run the offense through in the high or low post area. Bryanna plays with a chip on her shoulder, relentless going after rebounds and attacking defenders.
