The versatile 6’2” All-State performer made her announcement via her Twitter account on Monday, during the 4th of July holiday. She enters the summer rated No. 1 in the current Prep Girls Hoops Missouri Class of 2024 rankings.
One of Hurd’s first offers came last year from Missouri State University and then head coach Amaka Agugua-Hamilton, a.k.a. “Coach Mox.” Agugua-Hamilton left MSU to become the head coach at Virginia after the season, but still maintained a strong bond with Hurd.
“Coach Mox, her staff and I have been building a relationship since she was at Missouri State and it carried over to Virginia when she moved there,” Hurd said. “They make me feel like family and have really showed me a lot of love. I also have a lot of family in the Virginia, West Virginia area, so they were all excited about my decision.”
So far, Hurd had received official offers from Virginia, Missouri State and Missouri. As one of the top underclassmen in the state, many more offers were sure to come, but after an unofficial visit to the Charlottesville campus, she was comfortable enough to make her commitment before her junior season.
“I had been on the phone with a lot of coaches, especially since the NCAA change to June 1 to contact directly,” she said. “After visiting Virginia, it just felt right. It was one of those “when you know” moments.”
A starter since her freshman year, the multi-talented Hurd can play virtually any position on the floor. As a sophomore, she averaged 22.1 points, 10.1 rebounds two assists and three steals a game while shooting 49 percent from the field.
Hurd is currently playing for Kingdom Hoops 2024 during the summer grassroots season. She and her teammates will be in Louisville this week to participate in the Run 4 the Roses Showcase.
