Continue ReadingIn this version of a grassroots breakdown, I will be taking a look at a very intriguing team. Ohio Impact is a program with multiple teams. In this breakdown, we will be looking at the 16U team. Compiled of some younger, this team will compete at a high level!
Player Breakdown:
• MyKala Wheat 5’1 PG/SG (2021) Columbus Africentric Early College: Wheat has varsity experience, as well as being a State Champion. Plays hard on both sides of the ball defends hard 94 ft and she’s lightning quick with the ball in the open court. Inspires her teammates to play hard. Has the ability to knock down threes as well.
• Gracie Hensley 5’11 Forward (2022) Gahanna Lincoln High School: Has Varsity experience. Good size, good strength and good hands. Has very good low block footwork and she’s deceptive driving the ball from the perimeter and finishes well. Gracie has range and can knock down the deep ball with consistency.
• Juliana (Juju) Grubich 5’3” SG (2022) Gahanna Lincoln High School: Sharpshooter with JV experience. Shoots the three-pointer with consistency and efficiently continues to work to extend her range and expand her game.
• Jenna Shackleford 5’11 SG/Sm Forward (2023) Newark Heritage Middle School (Will attend Newark HS): Intriguing young player to watch. Has a high IQ. Has incredible length and athleticism. Can score in a variety of ways. Jenna has deep range from the perimeter leading the pack in 3’s taken and made. Slashes well and uses her length to finish. Shot blocker who continues to work on her perimeter defense.
• Syncere Royster 5’9” Power Forward (2023)Newark Heritage Middle School (Will attend Newark HS): Young post player with quick feet and incredible strength. Holds her own against taller players. Leads the team in most charges taken averaging 1 per game. Continues to work on foot work and face up moves.
• Olivia Owens 5’7 SG (2025)
Exciting young player well ahead of her years in skills and IQ. Has length, great handle, change of speed and change of direction. Also visualizes the court well already. Shoots the deep three with quick release. Has the ability to really light it up against players much older. Watch her as she continues to grow and get stronger.
