There was a lot of talent in the gym last Saturday at Prep Hoops 250 expo. Here is 5 game changers from the event.
Mya was one of the best passers I saw at the expo. She had some highlight real passes. She showcased her great court vision, and precision passing. She was passing up the floor in transition, on the wing, and from the post. She reads the defense so well, and gives her teammates great scoring opportunities. I also really liked how she attacked down hill, and got to the rim. She showcases her slashing skills at the expo as well. She had one perfectly executed give and go fast break for an easy layup that she converted. She really bought in on defense, and got after it on the boards. Mya also posted up a few time against players bigger in size.
Highlights
Wenzel made an impact right away as a freshman on the varsity team for Bourne, so she was on my radar going into the expo. Wenzel is a pure scorer, and a sharp three point shooter. She can be a game changer with her offensive firepower. She can take over a game with her scoring and shooting. She is a point guard who is poised and a good decision maker. Wenzel is a leader on the floor, and communicates well with her teammates. She is also a pesky defender. Wenzel’s performance at the expo reminded me to keep her on my radar this winter.
Really liked what I saw from Tarsa at the expo. She crashed the glass hard, and rebounded over bigger defenders. She was able to will her way in the paint and also score from the outside with her smooth jumper. She made a bunch of good reads on the defense, knowing when to attack the close out, find a cutting teammate or pull up. She was able to create her own shot and create for others. She is a very quick guard, which helps on her on defense not let ball handlers get past her. She moves well on defense and does a good job beating the offensive player to the spot.
Ariana is a versatile guard, who does a bunch of things to impact the game. Ariana was one of the better two way players in attendance. She has a good combination of strength and quickness. She really locked in on defense at the expo and rarely let anyone get by her. She was aggressive going to the rim and took strong takes from the wing. She is able to change speeds, and keep the defense on their toes. Her strength definitely helps her finish through contact. Ariana is a game changer with her defense in particular. Anyone who can get stops on defense will earn playing time. Can’t Wait to see what Ariana does at Winchendon.
Cruz is a name you will hear about this winter at Loomis Chaffee. She was a game changer by being one of the top playmakers in attendance. She was in attack mode all day long. She showed her versatile skill set, with her outside shooting, soft floater in the lane and many crafty finishing moves at the rim. All very important skills for a guard. She also had her fluid step back jumper on. She does a good job creating separating from the defense. She has great feel for the game and knows how to control her body. Cruz was a member of the class A championship team last season, and watch out as she look to lead the Loomis team to repeat.
