I’m breaking it down into various divisions so let me start with the top division. Let me also add that I left at halftime of the Summer Creek vs Desoto game, this will probably be the only time I get to see Desoto live and I wanted to get a glimpse of what’s coming
Jadyn Atchison Jadyn Atchison 6'1" | SG Cedar Hill | 2023 State TX -6’1 SG (Cedar Hill) 2023
Atchison signed with Colorada yet she delivered a message that Cedar Hill is in this thing. Watching her create her shot and elevate over defenders is a work of art, I just enjoy watching her drop jumpers yet she also did a job scoring off the dribble as well as on putbacks. Her defense, rebounding and playing the passing lane all stood out
Kelis Grant-5’8 SG (Cedar Hill) 2023
Grant signed with Sam Houston, she’s not on the Top 100 yet that will be taken care of after getting a great look at what she brings to the table. She can score both off the dribble as well as from the outside yet her “never takes a play-off” mindset just grabbed me. The crossover in the open court was very nice, and so was her seeing the floor
Janavia Gage Janavia Gage 6'3" | C Huntsville | 2023 State TX -6’3 C (Huntsville) 2023
Gage impressed me when I first caught her when she was a freshman with the Lady Thunder and the noise has gotten louder each year. She’s one of the best inside players in Texas, her college-ready body as well as her going after the ball off the rim was nice, well overly nice and she’s improved offensively, scoring with either hand in the paint
Mariyah Brown-6’1 PF (Summer Creek) 2023
Brown had me bewildered as I rarely look at rosters during games. I knew the face was familiar, and so was the game so I just had to take a peak. She will be an X factor for Summer Creek as one of their talented transfers. Her inside scoring over taller players, as well as rebounding against taller players spoke volumes, and so did her scoring off the dribble
Jorynn Ross Jorynn Ross 6'2" | PF John Cooper | 2023 State TX -6’3 P (Summer Creek) 2023
Ross is heading to Pepperdine yet she feels and played like there’s some unfinished business. I said they were the team to beat in the Region because of their countless athletic guards that can press yet I didn’t realize the transfers were there, which gives them a shot at winning it all. Ross scored around the basket yet her dropping the 3 tells me how far she has taken her game
Zachara Perkins Zachara Perkins 6'3" | SF Summer Creek | 2024 State TX -6’2 G/F (Summer Creek) 2024
Perkins is another X factor, had no idea she had transferred and hadn’t seen her all summer, I rarely see the EYBL squads, yet to say she’s added more to her game than the mid to long-range and taking defenders off the dribble would be an understatement. I enjoyed her interior scoring, as well as rebounding on both ends plus she showed good timing
Ma’Riya Vincent Ma’Riya Vincent 6'0" | SF Cy Springs | 2024 State TX -5’10 SG/SF (Desoto) 2024
Vincent showed out during July and picked up countless BCS/Power 5 offers and she showed why. Her ability to play multiple positions, on both ends, has always been a plus yet she’s gotten even stronger, which showed on her attacking from, well everywhere and finishing after contact but that pull-up jumper was clicking as well
Amari Byles Amari Byles 6'2" | SF Desoto | 2026 State TX -6’2 PF/C (Desoto) 2026
Byles is so powerful and her college-ready physique as a freshman is taking punishment like it isn’t there. I saw her score with multiple players hanging on her but she battles for everything off the rim, that’s always huge for me to see. She did a good job defending both inside and outside the paint
