Brown was just really good in the win against Zeeland West. Everything about her game screamed Miss Basketball finalist. She was just faster, stronger, and smoother than your average high school basketball player. Brown finished with a double-double in points and rebounds, scoring over half of her team’s 51 points. She scored in so many different fashions, from deep triples to taking a steal the length of the court and finishing for 2 on the other end.
Macy Brown Macy Brown 5’11” | PG East Grand Rapids | 2023 State MI will need that second scoring threat and it could just be Weaver. She showed some creativity in her scoring with a nice spin move and was the second leading scorer for East Grand Rapids. Weaver got it done on both ends, playing solid defense, even fronting in the post and denying ball entry.
I came away really impressed with the improvement that Brandstadt showed in this game. She applied excellent ball pressure on the perimeter that forced the action of the offense and forced at least 2 turnovers that I saw. Brandstadt also showed that she could bury a 3 when given space.
Klaasen was really solid in the game against East Grand Rapids. She paced the Zeeland West team by scoring 20 of their 39 points. Klaasen scored in a variety of ways. She connected at the free throw line, had a shifty finish with body control for 2, and hit a jumper from behind the arc. Klaasen can lead the Dux to wins if she can keep that pace offensively.
I’ve always been a really big fan of Popyk’s game and she proved herself to me once again in her team’s win over Birmingham Groves. She used her length effectively in the game, both going up and after the ball off the rim and enveloping the offensive player when she was playing defense. Popyk showed that she could put the ball on the floor, cover a lot of ground with minimal dribbles, and finish at the rim.
Highlights
Sanders was able to play a couple different roles effectively for Groves. First of all, she was a solid all around scorer. Sanders buried a tough mid range jumper. hit a 3 pointer from the corner, and used solid body control to finish at the rim for 2. I was really impressed to see how much she was relied on to be a primary ball handler as well. While doing this she kept her turnover numbers low and got the ball where it needed to go.
