Prospect Spotlight: Grace Plummer (2020)
There is a wealth of talent throughout the state and a lot of that is relative unknown talent that has been overshadowed. In the case of Valley’s Grace Plummer, Zoe Young and Shea Fuller have both now graduated and are off to Maryland and Minnesota State, respectively. Because Valley loses two immense talents, most people around the state think that they are going to have a down year. That will not be the case as the incoming talent and returning talent is very strong. Plummer is going to be one of the focal points of the offense this upcoming year and is going to be commanding a lot of attention.
Running with Beyond Ball this summer Plummer has really started to expand her game. She’s has gotten stronger and is starting to show a much improved feel for the game. You can always count on Plummer to shoot the ball well, but she is still working on that aspect of her game this season. Plummer is at her best when she has the ability to incorporate driving the ball into her game. She’s a lengthy and strong guard who holds the ability to finish at the rim through contact really well. She’s been a very good vocal leader for her team and you can always count on her to show energy towards her teammates.
“I️ think the summer has gone pretty well,” Plummer said. “I️ am on a new team this year so I️ have had the opportunity to play with different girls. I️ think my shooting is good but I️ need to work more on implementing driving and jump shots into my game.”
Plummer’s focus the rest of this summer is to become more of an offensive threat. She wants to score the ball more and generally when she’s scoring the ball good things happen. That added scoring ability will help her out this upcoming season as Valley seeks to get back to the state tournament. A repeat championship for Valley is not out of the question with all of the talent that they have coming back. There are a few things that she is looking forward to about the upcoming season.
“I️ am looking forward to being a captain and leading my team. I️ hope I️ can lead my team to another one,” Plummer says.
Her recruiting is going well and tells me she is grabbing some interest from schools at various levels. With continued outstanding play through June, you never know what schools she will attract. She is hoping to narrow her list down by the start of the high school season so that she can make a decision and focus on getting Valley back to the state tournament.
