Assemian is consistently one opposing teams have to game plan for – whether she is in the starting five or coming off the bench as was the case on Saturday. With a 15-point performance, Assemian ensured her Red Raiders would be in the win column against Seneca. One cannot coach height and Assemian’s six-foot frame is plenty for opposing teams to contend with. Someone with that height would be expected to be an interior specialist but Assemian can also make things happen in the backcourt as a guard. She is a consistent playmaker on both ends of the floor and is one of six 2027s on this season’s Red Raiders team.

When Assemian decided to take her act to 5A Division 2 Greenville over the offseason, the Red Raiders coaching staff envisioned her having games similar to what she had on Friday night against 4A Wren. Assemian scored a game-high 20 points and led Greenville to an emphatic victory over the Hurricanes. Out of the 20 points she scored, 15 occurred in the first half. Even though Assemian can connect from long range, much of what she got accomplished against Wren was in close proximity to the rim. She combines height with length and her presence can draw so much attention from defenses that it opens things up for her teammates to also make plays.

The Patriots of 3A Powdersville became a real player on the state stage last season due to the heroics of this multi-skilled four forward. Assemian completed her AAU ball with AEBL Girlz and has shifted her talents over to a 5A Division 2 Greenville team that advanced to the Upper State championship game earlier this calendar year. Assemian followed up a stellar freshman campaign with a sophomore season where she averaged 16.5 points, 8.8 rebounds and 2.4 steals in 28 games. Adding Assemian to the Red Raiders is a message to the rest of 5A Division 2 that it wants what Berkeley currently has (state championship status) and it wants it in 2025-26.

Assemian was a major catalyst in the successful season that was put together last year by 3A Powdersville. One of South Carolina’s signature high school prospects, she has now taken her talents to the 5A realm. Assemian is a major addition to a Greenville team that made a deep run in last season’s 5A Division 2 tournament. What probably garners Assemian so much attention is her ability to put points on the board from virtually anywhere on the floor. There is more than that to Assemian. She combines height with length, can come away with steals on defense and will gather a large number of rebounds. One can guess the many college coaches on hand had this standout on the brains.

Makayla keeps making strides in her play on the hardwood. Assemian an athletic forward really is a bit new to the game and has only been playing for a handful of years according to Head Coach Mike Anderson.
Makayla made the move up from #15 to #10 this time around in the 2027 Palmetto State Rankings. She averaged 16.5 ppg, 8.8 rebounds, 2.4 steals, 2.1 assists and 2 blocks this past season for the Lady Patriots (20-8).
Makayla has great length to be disruptive in the passing lanes and just seems to glide from spot to spot on the floor. She has good bounce and still hasn’t reached her potential moving forward.

The athletic gene apparently is common throughout the Assemian family (ask South Carolina men’s commit Hayden). The exploits of this talented sophomore have played a massive role in Powdersville’s rise up the 3A ranks. On Saturday, her Patriots were matched up against one of the state’s premier 1A squads in Lee Central. Thanks to the 25 points she tallied, the Patriots earned a 58-51 win over the Stallions. She stands at 6-foot-0. That height comes in handy when looking to convert on high-percentage baskets which Assemian does plenty of. Her length also comes in handy when looking to wreak havoc on defense which she also does plenty of.

Assemian is starting to scratch the surface with her play on the hardwood. Makayla is a run-jump-athlete who can cover a lot of ground at times on the floor. She likes to have the rock in her hands when bringing it up the floor in transition.
Makayla made the move up from 60 to 15 this time around in the latest rankings update.
She really defends the passing lanes well with her constant activity and quick hands. Makayla averaged 8.7 ppg and 6.6 rebounds as a freshman for the Lady Patriots last season. Look for those numbers to go up this season. Her older brother Hayden plays up at Moravian Prep in North Carolina and has committed to play basketball at the University of South Carolina next season.
