Continue ReadingBaldesarri surely put the state on notice this season in her first year at Douglas County. The shooting guard was an offensive wizard this past season averaging 20 points and 7 rebounds on 47% shooting from the field which made her one of three girls to average 20 points in 6A. A task that is not easy. Sofia led Douglas County to a 16-8 record giving them their first winning season in 20+ years. Going into the summer she will look to expand her game as she looks to continue her dominance on the national stage.
Keira Mitchell Keira Mitchell 6’3″ | SF Fountain-Fort Carson | 2024 State CO has the highest ceiling out of most of the girls in this class. She’s a 6’3 athletic wing that can defend multiple positions and score in a variety of ways. Having Mitchell on the floor gives coaches the freedom on defense to play freely knowing she is capable of guarding anybody one on one and giving help side as well. Offensively she excels in the halfcourt set giving she can move fluently around the perimeter, making the offensive flow a lot smoother.
Coryn Watts Coryn Watts 5’8″ | CG Regis Jesuit | 2024 State CO may have had the best year of her career last season from an offensive and defensive standpoint. Defensively, she was more active in passing lanes, getting deflections and making it harder for guards to get to the rim. Which you would say boosted her offensive game a lot. Offensively we already know she’s a lights-out shooter with a quick release, that doesn’t need much room to get her shot off. Her shooting ability isn’t what was most impressive about her though, it was more her willingness to get downhill and attack the basket which makes her an impossible cover.
Allison Schwertner Allison Schwertner 6’3″ | SF Mullen | 2024 State CO had to adjust to a bigger role this past season. She went from playing sparingly to having to help a team win every night. With that came a lot of growing pains for Allison but she was able to manage them by being a reliable scoring option for Mullen throughout the year. As summer ball approaches I’m curious to see what she can do to become more dominant in and around the paint, to give her more of an edge over opponents.
Highlights
Serlen has been an offensive threat in the paint for the past 3 years. She is a walking double who averages 18.5 points and 10.9 rebounds for her career. Last season Taylin had 14 20+ point games shooting 50% of better from the field. At 6’2 she is able to use for body to crash the offensive glass for easy second-chance opportunities. The standout junior has been able to add a different element to her game each year that keeps teams guessing what she will do next.
