Sammons poured in 25 points in a win over Mingo Central. She is the athlete that can score fast and in bunches. Jayce also led all scorers with 34 points in a close win over Herbert Hoover. She’s an impressive two-way athlete! Gregg Popovich once stated, “Defense is a choice, not a chore.” Sammons is a great defender with one of the highest motors. I love the energy and effort that Sammons always plays with!

Despite the early foul trouble, Sammons played extremely smart to stay on the floor at the end of the game! She’s an excellent outside shooter. She went 2-3 from behind the 3 point line. She finished with 12 points and 4 assists. The sophomore was clutch at the end of the game. Jaycelyn sealed the victory with making both of her free throws and picking up the steal right after!

Sammons continues to knock down big shots for this Wayne team. You have to stay true and guard her well behind the three point line. She is a confident shooter that can light it up fast and in a hurry! She recently reached the milestone of 100 made threes! If you didn’t know, she is only a sophomore! She can run the point or play the shooting guard position. Offensively, if you overplay, she will beat you on the back door. Defensively, she is aggressive and scrappy! Sammons’ defensive play and shooting will be a huge asset to help her team win the state championship!

Sammons helped her team defeat Summers County by leading the way with 27 points back in December. She stayed efficient shooting 6-12 and then 4-8 from the field in her next two games. She has numerous games with shooting 50% or better from the field. You often hear the term, “sensational sophomore.” Sammons is one of those sensational sophomores and she has helped her team to a winning record during this first half of the season! Jaycelyn can go coast to coast extremely fast! She has a great outside shot, but she is definitely more than a shooter!
