Last week, the home court of the 4A Chargers played host to this year’s Freshman Showcase. This coming weekend, Top 250 season begins across the country as the Hoop State hosts one of the first ones this year.
This weekend, five areas will play host to Top 250 events – including South Carolina. The others are Kentucky, Colorado and New England.
Earlier, we profiled a few of the sophomores that will be on hand at the home of the teal and purple. Now we turn our attention to the junior class.
The theme for Buoniconti and the 4A Wildcats this season is simple – unfinished business. Lake Norman remembers vividly last season where they were one win shy of a perfect season only to fall to Panther Creek in the state championship game. Buoniconti understands how to play effective defense and how to take care of the ball. She understands how to affect the flow of a game and keeps defenses honest as they are unsure as to if she will finish at the rim or pass to an open teammate. During the spring and summer months, she wears the uniform of Carolina Express Black.

When Farrell arrives at Cox Mill HS this weekend, she will have a home court advantage given she wears the teal and purple during the fall and winter months. Farrell stands at a towering 5-foot-11 and averaged 10.3 points and 7.7 rebounds in the 26 games she played last season for the Chargers. As those statistics display, she uses every bit of her near-six foot frame to her advantage as a high-percentage scorer and a rebounder. Prep Girls Hoops got a glimpse earlier this summer at the LBI Carolina Jam Fest and was one of our featured post players at last year’s Top 250 Expo.

Last month, Leathers approached a milestone in her career when she received an offer from Clark Atlanta. The HBCU Panthers have had reason to like what they have observed from Leathers over the years. She has also competed in track and field events in addition to basketball. Leathers can operate at either of the guard positions in the backcourt. During the AAU months, she has worn the uniform of Team United – while playing up in class on their 17U team. Leathers plays for one of the premier girls teams in North Carolina in the Ragin’ Bulls – and that is sure to continue to do wonders for her recruiting.

Jakubecy will be another of the taller participants at this year’s Top 250 as she stands at 5-foot-11. Versatility is a hallmark of Jakubecy’s game as she can log productive minutes as either a two guard in the backcourt or a three forward in the frontcourt. During the club months, he wears the uniform of Team Griggs . She took to the court on 25 occasions last season for the 4A Huskies. She took a positive step forward in her sophomore campaign and those who live, sleep, eat and breathe Huskies hoops can expect more from her as she advances into veteran status. Jakubecy will be one of three representatives from Hough that will be on the scene at Cox Mill this weekend.
