Anna Kate has been playing varsity basketball for what seems like a decade or longer and she’s going to have more on her plate than ever this season. Already the leading scorer for Mercer County last year at 16 points per game, AK lost her second leading scorer when Teigh Yeast Teigh Yeast 5’6″ | CG George Rogers Clark | 2026 State KY transferred to GRC. For Mercer to maintain being a top program in the region, Drakeford will need to be one of the best players in the region this season.

Staying in the 12th region, Talynne is coming off a Junior year where she led the Lady Rockets in scoring (16 PPG) and rebounding (7 RPG). Her Senior year, Shearer should be in the mix for 12th region player of the year. With great positional size and a good motor, Talynne should be a difference maker for Rockcastle and perhaps the most valuable player in the region to her team.
Cooper is still loaded with talent but someone has to help replace Whitney Lind. If I’m coaching the Lady Jags, I’m looking no further than Bella Deere Bella Deere 6’1″ | PF Cooper | 2024 State KY . With more opportunity, the 6’0 Deere can replace a lot of the production they got from Lind, especially as a rebounder. Bella is a solid post player who is ready for more time at the 4 and 5 spots after waiting her turn the last couple of seasons.

Shropshire is one of those players that I’ve been waiting to see make the jump to being one of the top 2024s in Kentucky. She’s got the size and athleticism at 6’3 to be a difference maker on both ends of the court but she’s also floated around the perimeter too much in the past. If she gets more comfortable off the bounce or even posting up smaller defenders, Rachel can be the player of the year in the region, in my opinion.

Gracie was a player who was mainly off my radar before having a really strong showing at our Top 250 this month. Sipes did a little bit of everything and did it well at camp and is capable of averaging around 18-20 points per game if she plays as well in her Senior season as she did at camp. North Oldham needs her to be really good for them to compete for a regional title and I think she’s more than capable of helping get them there.
