The national evaluators might catch you at an event they were covering, you had some doing statewide stuff but several players were being overlooked and after years of complaining, starting around 2003, I decided to NIKE and “Just Do It” myself. Since then, Texas has consistently had over 100 players sign to play D1 basketball and when you factor in there are around a thousand D1 scholarships every year, that solidifies what I started saying about the talent for 15 years. Am I a genius, that’s irrelevant but I am logical and I do know talent so with that being said, I’ll probably wind up with over 150 players from the 2020 class, I’m adding six today from Prime Time Sportz Summer Elite Showcase and I’ll be reviewing notes before the next rankings update coming soon
Molly KaiserMolly Kaiser-5’8 PG Nike Texas Select (Saginaw HS) she impressed me a lot 2 years ago but more importantly she impressed several college coaches at the #secgirls19 and several asked me what did I know about her and my response was “coach she can play” She’s athletic, she creates her shot and that pull-up jumper is smooth and one of the best at the event. Here’s the real, she gets hers in the flow as well as understands how to get teammates involved but when it’s crunch time, It’s Molly Time because unlike my mail carrier, she delivers consistently
Sydney Bowen-5’8 PG Cy Fair Elite 17U O’Bryant Platinum (Dekaney HS) loved her game since day one because the first time I saw her she was , well everywhere and when you’re one of those “never takes a play off” types of players, that’s pretty big, especially in this era. She also showed me she loved to defend, pressure baseline was among the main things I initially caught, all of this before high school. She’s made adjustments, she can run a squad, handle the ball under pressure and her range continue to get deeper and deeper
Madison ClearyMadison Cleary-5’10 SG Cy Fair Elite 17U Platinum (Prosper HS) I can’t tell you how many players I’ve watched drop eight three’s in a game not because it’s a secret, that is something I just can’t remember because as 21 Savage would say, #ALOT. What I can say is I count on my fingers how many players I’ve seen drop eight from bta in a half and she’s one of them. One of the best long ball exhibitions of the century because what’s my main saying, “it’s not what you do, it’s who you do it against” and this was against an EYBL squad. Catch and shoot or create it, she was on fire but she’s always been a long ball threat
Brittney Fields-6’2 P DFW Elite-Texoma (Collinsville) when I glanced at the school name, I thought about Collinswood and Dark Shadows’ Barnabus Collins, the coolest vampire from childhood that was scary and it totally fit because Fields is definitely scary on the court. Her frame and strength combined with her mobility jst captivated me but watching her battle for everything on the boards, offensive rebounds galore just sold me because the young lady is a fighter, on the court and when you have that drive with that size, someone will take notice
Makalah RobinsonMakalah Robinson-5’6 SG Urban Heroes Elite Ross (Cedar Hill HS) I knew she was going to be making noise as a sixth grader, folks I’m never wrong about talent in girl’s basketball but her speed and being under control, her unselfishness and ability to defend and enjoy it sent off a red flag. Over the years, she has continued to add more to her game, an explosive first step combined with unlimited range nit to mention her ability to create her own shot are all useful for the next level
Zayla Tinner-5’10 PF Drive Nation 17U EYBL (Amarillo HS) strong, powerful and athletic are definitely a big part of her finishing with players hanging all over her but she attacks the basket well, from just about every angle imaginable plus she rebounds on both ends of the court and defends, inside the paint, on the perimeter or the length of the court
Paetynn Gray-6’2 PF AD Elite Peterson (Cedar Ridge HS) I use long and athletic a lot because generally it means a player is close to what I call “the magic number” of 6’0 which virtually assures a player with any type of talent will play at the next level. I had a very good look at Gray during the event and two things, her energy on the court and her playing the passing lane told me a lot. She rebounds, she finishes and she brings heat on defense and has also just committed to Cal State Northridge
