Expert Analysis
Simmie Colson | Prep Girls Hoops Scout
Vanderford continues to show her versatility on both ends as she can defend strongly inside the paint, yet her lateral movement has gotten better, and this helps her “on the ball” pressure outside the paint. She’s a solid rebounder and understands how to get the outlet going, but her court vision in the set needs to be mentioned as well. She scores inside the paint with either hand and can face the basket to score

#19 up from #22 Vanderford is one of the most improved players, who could already play, that I caught over the club season, and seeing her in a variety of settings and finding ways to separate herself and stand out tells me a lot about what’s coming see evaluation here

Shows great strength on the low block as she is able to post up against two defenders and stay patient enough to read the defense. Finds space to score with a smooth turnaround and keeps defenders honest by taking it coast to coast when they’re caught sleeping. Vanderford is a versatile threat who can punish mismatches inside or push the break in transition.

Vanderford falls into that “tip sheet waiting to happen” group, as I have countless articles showing her adding more to her game over the years, see evaluation here Initially she was primarily a back-to-the-basket player, yet her mindset and work ethic expanded her game so seeing her show not only the crossover but the “change of pace” as well to get by the defender and score was nice. Her body control keeps getting better; she dropped the jumper and defended strongly

Vanderford has also made quite a few of my tip sheets; see evaluations here. One thing that impresses me the most is that she strives to get better and hasn’t settled. She’s more aggressive inside the paint, scoring, rebounding, and defending, yet she also scores facing the basket, and her pull-up jumper is creating problems. She also showed the spin move off the dribble, but her finishing with either hand had me smiling

Vanderford showed more aggressiveness on the defensive end, playing outside of the paint. Her lateral movement and timing to block shots looked good. She scored around the basket, rebounded on both ends, and saw the floor, yet she also handled the ball after rebounding and went “coast to coast” to score while being defended. Her midrange looked as she not only created her shot but also created spacing to get it off

Vanderford has size and a solid skillset, and that has been obvious from the first time I saw her, yet seeing her add more over the years was nice. Sure, she rebounds on both ends and can handle the ball afterward, plus she can score facing the basket, but seeing her finish strongly, with either hand, after contact was nice

#16 Up from #18
Vanderford has made the transition nicely into high school basketball and her versatility, coupled with her size, is creating some match-up problems. I think her defense outside the paint is probably what impressed me the most, yet her finishing around the basket after contact needs to be mentioned as well see evaluation here

#18 Vanderford showed me she had elevated her game in a couple of INDIVIDUAL SHOWCASES see evaluation here and see evaluation here which was great since I missed her all of the club season. Her steady improvement coupled with her size and skillset will keep her in the mix and watching her score around the basket, off the dribble as well as from outside will attract next-level attention, especially since she rebounds and handles the ball afterward

Vanderford gave me a glimpse of her progression during the 1 on 1 skill by creating her shot from outside, yet she went over the top during the games, I’m talking about rebounding on both ends and blocking shots. Her interior defense was solid, she even stepped out and applied “on the ball” pressure. Her “hands and footwork” was plus, so was her “catch and shoot” from outside
