Addie McLaughlin will have some help this season, giving Regina a chance to make a 2A State run once the Playoffs begin at the start of 2027. McLaughlin averaged 22 PPG and 6 APG as a Sophomore at Regina last Winter. You would think with more help that her numbers might drop down a bit in the PPG department but I don’t think that will be the case. With more support, defenses are going to be even thinner when trying to slow down the Regals. Opposing teams will have to focus more on everyone else around McLaughlin, opening her up to even more buckets throughout the next few years. This is one of those hoopers that we call PG #1. She will play at a D1 level when she gets to college, it’s just figuring out where at this point in the process. She can be your pass first type but she can also light the nets on fire with her shooting ability so it’ll all comes down to who see’s value in that.

Court Vision & Passing

Addie McLaughlin passes the eye test as PG #1 on any team she competes with if you sit down to watch her for just five minutes of competitive play but her numbers over her career also back up that same statement. McLaughlin is a D1 level player with elite vision down the floor. Not only is she good at getting her head up and seeing the play unfold before it actually does. She is also extremely good at passing to open spots, leading her teammate into the play in those moments. There has only been a handful of players over my scouting career in Iowa that have had this ability and those players all end up at D1 programs at the collegiate level. I’m not trying to say anything but if that’s any foreshadowing McLaughlin will be lock in with a D1 program before you know it.

Assists Per Game: 4.7

4.7 is the number that is leading the Country in the EYCL this season in Assists Per Game and the player doing that is none other than our very own, Addie McLaughlin of AIA 17U EYCL. McLaughlin is one of Iowa’s top 2028’s for a reason. She is a leader by example, she is someone that can control everything that is happening on both sides of the floor with her next level guidance, and she is someone that everyone likes to compete with. Her teammates would say that she is one of the team favorites as an individual in general and that could take her a long way in life. Prior to this weekend, McLaughlin took a few D1 visits around the Midwest. If sure if she does her thing and plays to her full capabilities that she will be receiving even more interest moving into this Fall.

McLaughlin continues to be a solid overall PG prospect out of this 2028 Class, that is going to continue to receive offers all the way up to her commitment and that’s why she holds the #6 spot. As of most recent she took a visit to St. Thomas (MN), receiving an offer from the Tommies to add to her collection. This Winter she will return to the 2A level with Regina Catholic and I’m sure they are going to be a group that doesn’t lose too often at this level with their new additions on hand. With McLaughlins leadership and her ability to shoot the rock, she is set up to post some big numbers over her next two seasons as an Upperclassmen. She just needs to keep her head down and to continue to keep on pushing forward.

We haven’t been in to see McLaughlin a lot this Spring while she plays up on the 17U EYCL team but from her stats and by the looks of it from afar, she is doing just fine leading her team as PG #1. This weekend in Vegas I’m pretty sure that McLaughlin will be in attendance doing her thing. She is a talented PG, that is going to compete at the D1 level one day it’s just a matter of where at. She still has a few years to go before she has to make that decision and I’m sure everything in-between now and then will impact where she ends up so she just needs to keep being herself. If she does that, history will write itself. If I’m a college coach, I’m making my way to McLaughlin’s courts this weekend. Her ability screamed natural and anyone who see’s it first hand could tell you that.

McLaughlin put together a successful Spring Live Period while helping her team as one of their top notch PG’s. The AIA program is loaded with guards in the boat load and McLaughlin stands out as one of the best for her age level because of her ability to make plays down the court as a scoring and passing threat. After putting in work and showing up this past weekend she received another D1 offer to Omaha out of Nebraska. This program is in line with the other type of offers that McLaughlin has received so far. If she keeps working her tail off and making everyone else around her better than I’d expect there to be several more offers on the table prior to the Fall.

McLaughlin is a monster assister, a scoring threat from all three offensive levels, and she communicates with her teammates really well as their top-dawg. She would be considered a pass-first PG but she isn’t afraid to slow things down to help her team control the pace of play throughout either. This is someone that really embodies what this article is all about. If McLaughlin was my PG, she would have all of my trust to go out and make good choices when it matters the most. She has done this her whole life on a national scale and we see that every night she competes for the Regina Regals out of Iowa City as well.

McLaughlin is a crafty facilitator as a starting PG with a heck of a shooting strap from deep. McLaughlin is one of those PG’s that you can give the ball too and you can trust that she will make the right choices with it every time without question. She can control pace of the game when she has it in her possession, she understands how to use her step through ability off of two feet once she is in the kill zone of the defense, and she isn’t afraid to light the nets on the fire when her team needs some scoring. All of this stuff has been McLaughlin’s MO this Winter. She has had some other step up to help but she is going to keep more of that if they want to make a run following their regular season.

The 5’5″ super sophomore is exceeding all expectations and leading her IC Regina team to a strong first half of the season (7-2). McLaughlin checks all the boxes — a silky smooth + accurate jumper (shooting at 35% on the year), an explosive first step to fly past defenders off the dribble, excellent handles, and one of the top assist counts in the state (58). I love McLaughlin’s bounce and ease with the basketball. She doesn’t get sped up, makes defenses adjust to her pace, and is comfortable finishing at tough angles with both hands in the paint. If her season stats (26PPG, 5.6RPG, 6.4APG, and 5.6SPG) aren’t indicative enough of the season she’s having, her last game — a 41 point outing against ranked Tipton — should convince you!

McLaughlin is the team. She is the source. The source of what you might ask? The source of everything for the Regals. The scoring, assisting, stealing, defending, rebounding, communicating – it’s all McLaughlin. She is PG #1 per usual but now she has less help then ever so to see how she will adapt to this situation will tell us a lot. In this piece McLaughlin holds onto the #5 spot. Which is a nice place to be moving into 2026.
