Gutknecht has a soft touch on the ball, she understands spacing and timing, she knows how to press offensively at her opponents weaknesses, and she plays an overall sound game as a hooper. She might not be killing you for 25 a night but she has her moments and she can be relied on to make plays down the stretch when she has other ballers around her. Southwest is a solid team, that should win several more game this Winter if they play their cards right.

Gutknecht thrives on contact, attacking the basket while finishing through fouls. She has good footwork and soft touch around the rim, making her a reliable scorer in traffic.

Defensively, she uses her quick feet to stay in front and disrupt plays. Alexis showed good timing with two impressive blocks from behind during a finishing drill. She competes with aggression and intensity, setting the tone with her play. Overall, she’s a matchup problem.

I consistently thought to myself “Big guard,” as she bodied players down low and finished through fouls. This kid is a hard-nosed player that thrives through contact while having plenty of counter moves to finish with finesse. If you need a tough bucket, Gutknecht will get it done.

When a play needs to be made, this is someone who can do it for you. She happens to do really well when she has another skilled individual around her, as it eases up the pressure on herself but in general – this is still a playmaker by definition. At this event, Gutknecht was doing a little bit of everything. Grabbing boards, dishing out assists, scoring the rock, and everything else you can imagine. At SW this Winter, this is someone who will produce each evening for her squad. She just needs to keep on working on her crafty in her free-time. If that happens, this is a name we will hear more and more about moving into the future.

The more that I watch Gutknecht, the more I think she can compete at the next level one day. This is someone that only stands at 5’7 but she plays like she is 6’0. With her length she can stick with smaller guards or she can wall up against someone that might be bigger near the bucket. Offensively, Gutknecht can spread the floor and score at all three levels when the opportunities presents themselves. This is a great pickup for the Lasers. I see where the promise is and that promise is only going to grow with time/experience.
