Expert Analysis
Mike Benson | Prep Girls Hoops Scout
Dickinson has been in a bit of a rebuild mode the previous two seasons. Stevenson has been a big piece of that rebuild, having major varsity contributions in both her 8th grade and freshman seasons. The Mavericks are due to start reaping some of the rewards that come with the growing pains of playing younger players and Ali will be at the forefront. She is a grinder and bruiser around the basket, unafraid of any physicality. Stevenson has the ability to play inside and out, both on offense and defense. She has future All-WDA potential if she keeps working hard and improving.

Stevenson is a competitive beast for the Mavericks. I really appreciate how she plays the game. Dickinson has struggled to win games the past couple of seasons but Ali is a player that is fighting to help turn that around. She plays more like a forward than her listed position as a guard but can handle the ball when needed. She isn’t afraid of physicality or taking the ball to the basket. The Mavericks will be a better team in the next couple of years if players like Stevenson continue to lock in and improve.

Stevenson is another girl on this list who played quite a bit of varsity basketball last season as an 8th grader. She made some solid contributions and has had a great summer according to her head coach. Her dedication to improving is something that everyone can appreciate in a young player. She has the skills to be a good high school player and someone Dickinson will need to improve their wins from last season going forward.

Ali was in the rotation for Dickinson nearly the entire season. She has a strong base and moves well. I am really impressed with her jumping ability. She is able to time rebounds and jumps well to grab the ball at the peak. She has a good looking shot but will need to work on getting her feet set on drive and kick threes. Dickinson was a super young team and will have a lot of pieces back going forward. Ali will be a solid high school player and will look more comfortable on the floor going forward.

Ali is a key reserve for Dickinson and someone Coach Terrance Lockett is excited to see progress in the future. She is able to come off the bench and make a three and will improve her percentage as she puts in time in the off-season. She is still learning the speed of the varsity game and is having to learn and adapt every night in a very good WDA conference. I am confident in Lockett’s assessment of Ali and excited to see how she does the rest of the season.
