At 6’2″, Hinzmann is a strong, versatile presence in the paint with the mobility to defend the perimeter. She impressed at the Prep Girls Hoops Expo, showcasing improved offensive skills and a more refined scoring touch. Hinzman finishes through contact, puts the ball on the floor in traffic, and navigates with control. On defense, she plays with poise and purpose – dropping into a deep stance, using her length to disrupt shots, and rebounding with smart positioning. Amaya’s instincts and timing stand out, and she can effectively guard inside or out. A breakout season looks likely.

At 6’2″, Hinzmann was all gas, no brakes during the second weekend of the Breakdown. She consistently punished opponents in the post, taking advantage of every opportunity to score inside. Her versatility was on full display as she put the ball on the floor, navigated traffic with control, and embraced contact on her way to the basket. On the defensive end, Hinzmann’s pride showed. She dropped into a strong stance when guarding on the perimeter, using her length and wingspan to make life difficult for opponents attempting to get around her. With her interior dominance, perimeter agility, and relentless motor, Hinzmann looks poised for a breakout season.

The difference in Hinzmann’s game from a year ago to now is remarkable. Her overall skillset has improved dramatically, as has her creativity on the offensive end. We were particularly impressed with Amaya’s footwork in the paint, as she now has a wide range of moves in her arsenal. One of the highlights of the day was watching the 6’2 forward knock down a spin-move fadeaway midrange jumper, akin to the signature shot of Minnesota Lynx star Napheesa Collier. Hinzmann will have some big shoes to fill this winter at STMA, but there is no doubt in our minds that Knights junior has what it takes.

Hinzman’s offensive game is coming along nicely. She can shoot in the lane over both shoulders and doesn’t mind banging for position. She does a good job of hanging around the rim rewarding herself with offensive rebounds and put-backs. What was more impressive was her ability to play multiple defensive coverages. She did a good job of hedging and getting back to her primary, and when she was switched onto a guard, Hinzman was able to hold her own on the perimeter. During one of the 3 x 3 games, she had a spirited match up with her STMA teammate

. Sexton is a bit more polished offensively, but Hinzman had a few impressive moves herself in the paint and made Sexton work for everything she got. Plenty of upside here.
