About Taylah
Expert Analysis
Grant McGinnis | Prep Girls Hoops Scout
Jahnke is one of those players who leaves a dent in every game she plays. Everything Taylah does carries a certain force behind it. The Watertown-Mayer standout is technically a forward, though she often plays more like a powerful guard who enjoys challenging defenders physically. She attacks gaps, welcomes contact, and never seems to back away from a confrontation near the basket. Her 18-point performance in the championship game was a perfect example. When the competition got tougher, she seemed to get more comfortable. What makes Taylah intriguing long-term is that there’s still obvious room for growth. If her shooting continues to develop (especially from distance) her combination of strength, toughness, and playmaking ability will become even more difficult for opponents to handle. She may be a scholarship player before it’s all said and done.

Jahnke is a physical guard with a big frame and the look of a college athlete already. She was aggressive from the start on Sunday, attacking the basket relentlessly and competing hard in both 3-on-3 and 5-on-5. A strong driver with good vision in transition, she plays at a high pace and weaves through traffic with craft. Taylah averaged 9.4 points per game last season at Watertown-Mayer as their third-leading scorer. A capable shooter and effective playmaker, Jahnke’s next step is refining her handle and sharpening her defensive consistency.

It was a breakout weekend for Jahnke, who scored 62 points in her team’s five games, including a 22-point performance Friday night. Jahnke can score in multiple ways, with the ability to play through contact in the paint and knock down shots from the outside. She runs the floor well in transition, does a nice job making plays for others when she puts the ball on the floor and her length allows her to play over other players. The Watertown-Mayer wing averaged double figures as a sophomore and will be one to watch moving forward.
