A solid floor general with nifty ball handling skills. Amoria did a good job of running the point guard position this season for Chapin High School. She was reliable to get the ball up the court breaking tough pressure defenses and heady enough to be able to set up the offenses in the half court and run the show on the floor.

Wright transferred to 5A Division 2 Chapin during the offseason and has been a solid addition to this year’s Eagles team. With seven points, Wright helped her Chapin team to a 52-39 victory over 3A St. Joseph’s Catholic. Chapin had a lead late and St. Joseph’s Catholic committed fouls to stop the clock. Late-game free throws from Wright helped seal the victory for the Eagles. Wright is a skilled guard with solid ball-handling skills, can handle the ball through a sea of opposing defenders and can get out of precarious situations thrown at her and her team by said opposing defense.

During the offseason, coach Terence Jones – who led several of his Denmark-Olar teams to state championship games, stepped down from his Vikings post and became the new head coach at Chapin. This typically has a domino effect – including players deciding to leave. Wright is one of those players. She has also played volleyball throughout her career as an outside hitter and middle hitter. One of two that comprise what is now the Eagles’ sister act, she is more the guard of the two. Wright played in 22 games last season with the Vikings and averaged 7.4 points, five steals and 3.9 rebounds.

Wright is used to wearing blue given her stint at 1A Denmark-Olar. The hue of blue Wright will be wearing at 5A Division 2 Chapin will be a bit different than that of the Vikings. Wright displays excellent speed and agility when she has the ball in her hands. There are those that attack the rim, but few perform this basketball trait as ferociously and as fearlessly as Wright does. Her athletic career has also included volleyball alongside the basketball accolades she has amassed. As an eighth grader for a Denmark-Olar team that made it back to the 1A state championship game, Wright averaged 7.4 points, five steals and 3.9 rebounds in 22 contests.

Amuria was very instrumental in helping the Lady Vikings get to the Class 1A State Championship Game last March. Wright saw plenty of action a season ago as a 7th grader. Amuria plays the game fearless already for her young age. She really has no problems looking to score the ball near the bucket or out on the perimeter. Amuria is certainly the future of the basketball program for Head Coach Terence Jones in the years moving forward.

Denmark-Olar proved last season that it can graduate talent and still replenish with youngsters. Wright – a 2029 – was one of those youngsters that was ready for the varsity ranks. With a nine-point outing, she led her One Team One Dream assembling to a 40-30 victory over Lady Stars Georgia. Listed at 5-foot-7, the young up-and-comer is establishing herself firmly as a mainstay of any team’s backcourt. Wright showcases plenty of aggressiveness and confidence for someone as young as she is and she has the ability to score from all three levels. Rebounding and defense are two other strong elements to her overall skillset.
