when the Lady Gym Rats 17U went up against Michigan Express Drive. She was explosive off the dribble and drove hard to the basket, where she finished with a crafty layup at the rim or created contact that led to a trip to the line. Aniyah also played good defense on the perimeter and pulled down a couple rebounds.

Carter did a great running the point and never looked rattled by the constant pressure by GRC. She’s a superb ball handler with phenomenal speed and quickness that allows her to get an where she wants on the court. Carter impacted the game in many ways, she came up with steals on defense and on offense she did a good job drawing contact inside and making shots from the perimeter, finishing with 14 points in the game.

Carter is so quick and she does so many valuable things on the court. From steals to assists to scoring, she impacts the game in a big way. By the time I got over to her game, her team was already up by a pretty good amount. Instead of taking plays off or slowing down, she was playing with the same intensity you would expect in the start of the game. She made it very difficult for the defense to stay in front of her and once she got a step on them, she simply made good stuff happen, creating well for teammates.

Carter shined at our Top 250 expo back in the fall and earned a big move up from 58th to 40th in this round of rankings. Aniyah is quick and very shifty. She has a big time first step that allows her to get into the paint but then she doesn’t force shots when she’s in there. A true point guard!

Carter is a high IQ player that consistently gives 110% effort. She is a great defender both on and off of the ball. She can get out into the passing lanes defensively to come up with steals and she applies a ton of pressure on the ball as well. She’s another player that is constantly getting her teammates the ball and making plays for them. Carter is a good ball handler and she can really make a big impact on both sides of the ball. She’s in a new uniform this year and she’s already helped lead the Indians to a 3-0 start.

Carter is the definition of heart over height. She isn’t the tallest player on the court, but she’s going to play harder than just about anyone else. Defensively, she makes the opposing team work. If the player she’s guarding relaxes for even a second, Carter’s going to steal the ball. She was one of the most impressive on-ball defenders that I saw last season. Offensively, Carter has a good outside shot, but she utilizes shot fakes so well to give herself even better scoring opportunities. She really creates for her teammates as well. She is excellent at drawing help defense on her drives and then kicking to the open player. Carter’s passes are strong and she should have a big sophomore season ahead of her.
