Ariel is the kind of player every coach wants and that is a pass first point guard that hold’s winning above all. Brown who is a very good point guard in her own right unselfishly played most of the camp on the wing with multiple other point guards on team five’s roster. That was a wise move as the impressive ball handling I saw at the Cherokee Invitational last December was used to score rather than distribute the basketball on Saturday. Brown’s ability to get to the basket and score or create enough space to rise up and knock down jump shots playing on the wing showed a totally different dimension to her game that I would otherwise never seen. She is a gritty, tough defender who rebounds the ball really well for her position. Ariel once again showed that she plays the game with a high basketball IQ and a competitiveness that isn’t found in every kid.

Brown really had an impressive performance in a 40-23 win versus a talented Hardaway team on day one. She did a great job dictating the pace and controlling the tempo at such a young age in a game full of veteran players. She did a great job keeping the defense off balance by changing speeds while handling the ball and her ability to accelerate quickly proved to be very difficult for the Hardaway defense to handle. Brown distributed the ball efficiently and effectively without the turning the ball over and picked and chose her spots when to score. Both of her baskets came in the paint where she used her excellent ball handling on the perimeter to blow by her man before smoothly finishing over taller defenders. Ariel played well when I saw Campbell at the Cherokee Invitational with Insider Exposure in December and she was even better this time. She is definitely player who could see a big jump in the rankings at her position on the next update.

Brown looked very comfortable and confident on the court for Campbell, especially for a freshman. It didn’t take long for her to show how good of a player she is offensively. Brown drove to the basket successfully on several occasions with good results. She scored on a nicely timed back cut to the basket and also knocked down a smooth step back three. Ariel played within the offense and made good passes. She played hard on the defensive end guarding the ball and in help side defense and also contributed on the boards.
