Cossey and her squad got the tournament started right with a big win over Jasper in the first round, and she had 12 points in that game. Just before the playoffs began, Cossey faced Norfork and put up 15 points, 3 boards, 3 assists, and 6 steals.

Cossey is a crafty player on the interior. She has great footwork and utilizes the drop step really well, but she is more than just an inside finisher. Cossey has shown the ability to score well in the open court, as she moves more like a forward than a traditional big.

Thanks to Cossey’s soft touch and footwork in the paint, she was able to score effectively, which is something opposing 1A schools know all too well about.

Right after leading Westside to their first state title in decades, she flew up the rankings, and she picked up some great college offers. Now, she is ready to take the Lady Eagles back to the big game and maybe pick up some more offers in the process.

Cossey is nearly impossible to stop in the post. She has great footwork and coordination with the ball in her hands, finding ways to get a good look inside. She can then hit easy shots off the glass through tough defense. Cossey also scores a fair amount of second-chance points, thanks to her hustle and effort on the backboard.

On the other end of the floor, Cossey is an excellent shot blocker who uses perfect timing to send the opposition’s shots into the stands. Like on the offensive end, she is a fantastic rebounder who can start the break.

I have talked extensively about Ashlyn Cossey Ashlyn Cossey 5'10" | PF/C Greers Ferry Westside | 2026 State AR in the past, advocating for her to be ranked higher in the 2026 class. Well I am back again, this time believing she should find her way inside of the top 25 of her class.

Cossey is perhaps the best post player in the 1A classification. She was the defensive anchor for the Greers Ferry Westside Lady Eagles, who won the state championship for the first time in what felt like forever. In that championship game, Cossey was too hard to handle, posting 22 points, 14 rebounds, 4 assists, and 1 steal. She shot 9/21 from the field, went perfect from the free throw line, and earned the title game MVP.

During the regular season, Cossey averaged a double-double of 12.8 points and 10.3 rebounds. She also averaged 3.4 assists, 2.2 steals, and 1.0 block per game while shooting 52.5% from inside the arc and 75% from the charity stripe. Cossey recorded 18 double-doubles during the regular season.

With Cossey’s strength, footwork, and touch around the basket, she is truly a dominant offensive player, not to mention her great rebounding and defensive instincts. The 1A championship MVP was Ashlyn Cossey Ashlyn Cossey 5'10" | PF/C Greers Ferry Westside | 2026 State AR , who has emerged as one of the best bigs in the state. There was nothing Earle could do to combat Cossey, as she was doing damage to the paint on both ends of the floor.

Cossey finished with 22 points, 14 rebounds, and 4 assists. She shot just under 50% from the field, but she did go a perfect 4/4 from the charity stripe. Cossey is dangerous with her back to the basket, as she uses her strength to push the defense under the basket and then shoots over them. She is also great in the pick-and-roll, being a solid finisher in every situation thanks to her soft touch. 

On the other end of the floor, Cossey was out-rebounding almost everybody. Earle was having trouble with her length and athleticism, making her a true weapon on the glass.

Cossey is hard to handle in the post. She uses excellent footwork to get around the defense, whether she is using a drop-step or a spin move. Once she has a good look at the basket, she can shield off the defense and shoot what seems to be an uncontested look with all of the space she created.

There are not many players who can have an impact on the boards like Cossey can. She is dangerous on both ends, putting back offensive rebounds on one and ending the opposition’s possession on the other.

Cossey has helped Greers Ferry Westside make it to the 1A state championship game, as well as helping the Lady Eagles to a perfect conference record and one of the best overall records in the state.

Cossey is a double-double machine who uses her length to outrebound the opposition. On offense, she is one of the more consistent post scorers in the class. She has a soft touch around the rim and uses excellent footwork to step around the defense. On the other end, she is Westside’s anchor, rejecting multiple shots a game.

Cossey is hard to keep off the glass. She uses her length and strength to position herself in the perfect spot under the rim. Her athleticism allows her to out-jump everyone else on the court, snagging every board she sees.

On the offensive end, she will back her defender well into the post, then she will turn and shoot a high-percentage shot. With Cossey’s activity on the offensive glass, she scores a lot of second-chance points, racking up double-doubles with ease.

Greers Ferry Westside is full of talent, as they are about as close to a superteam as you can get in this classification. However, the way that Ashlyn Cossey Ashlyn Cossey 5'10" | PF/C Greers Ferry Westside | 2026 State AR plays will be a deciding factor in this tournament.

Ashlyn “Big Country” Cossey held it down in the middle for Greers Ferry last night. She made plays on both ends of the floor, and she was impressive all around.

Cossey finished with 8 points, with half of them coming from the free throw line. For a post player, Cossey is an excellent foul shooter, going 4/4 on the evening. Also for a big, she is a talented passer. She made sure to get her teammates involved, finding them on several open looks on the inside and the outside. In addition to the several assists she racked up, she had a big game on the backboard.

Cossey crashed the offensive and defensive glass hard. She had the height advantage over the Pirates, but she also had the effort advantage, outworking the opposition for every rebound.

It was a 3-way tie for the player who would top this list, but hands down Ashlyn can flat out play. I really enjoyed watching her run the floor and score the way she does. Listed 5’10, she can play 4 positions on the floor, including point guard! She has a high IQ, and it shows through how hard she plays. If it’s a needed rebound or stop Ashlyn is on it! #23 uses her size to fend off defenders while driving to the basket and to deter post players trying to score with a block. Cossey has a nice touch around the rim and plays with poise. She absorbs contact like next level players and that’s a skill most learn in college. In one clip the junior came from the low block to get a steal on the wing and took it coast to coast for 2. Averaging close to a double -double this year, she’s all over the court with her style of play. She’s going to put a mark on the 2026 rankings following the last one. The Lady Eagles success has a lot to do with Ashlyn and how she fits well with this squad. Be on the lookout for this one and the amazing season Greers Ferry West Side Lady Eagles are having!
