Athena is a true three-level scorer who makes the game look easy, consistently producing from beyond the arc, mid-range, and at the rim. She uses her height advantage effectively, rising over defenders to get clean looks, while also showing strength in the post to overpower matchups. Athena is just as impactful as a playmaker, getting her teammates involved, and finishes confidently around the rim with either hand.

Athena’s athleticism shined in this one. The way she attacked the glass and secured rebounds, you would never know she’s only listed at 5’9″. Her ability to sky up for boards and play bigger than her size was a difference-maker, especially against a Westtown squad stacked with size at all positions. Her perimeter defense was also solid today, able to be disruptive and apply good ball pressure.

The epitome of what a 2-way wing is, Athena does her job and does it well. There’s not a possession taken off from the overseas talent. Coming from across the waters this year, she’s had to make adjustments on the fly and has found success on both ends of the floor. Thompson has made a name for herself as a someone that takes on the tasks of covering the opposing team’s better offensive players no matter where they may be on the court. She can be a shutdown type of defender that will throw a wrench in any coach’s offensive scheme. Athena is also a stable scorer herself; she gets deep within the lane and understands the right choices to make with the ball in her hand. Thompson also has shown to get the rim ferociously as well as demonstrate a solid shot that keeps defenders honest. Schools should quickly take notice of this gem.

Athena has been guarding some of the region’s best talents night in and night out with relentlessly. Her strong frame is mixed with next level athleticism which make her a nightmare for many. She has no problem guarding opponents from great distance and has mastered the art of turning her hips before striking into action. Her dexterity from the wing as well as under the 3-point line is notable too. The overseas wing has made a huge impact, especially on the defensive side of the ball since lacing them up for PSA this year. Athena is a pure 2-way cornerstone type of player.

Athena is quite the prospect. She’s quickly brought that overseas flair across the water and made an impact in NEPSAC. Thompson is a remarkable 2-way talent that’s had a couple show-out games, including a 34-point one vs Darrow. What’s most impressive about Athena is that she’s regularly guarding the opposing team’s best perimeter player. Already this season, she’s faced a number of the top wing talents and has been utterly impressive guarding them. Athena’s an agitator that’s extremely aggressive as a perimeter defender. She regularly requires players turn their body to protect the ball. Her long wingspan alongside her athletic ability makes her an astounding deterrence. Athena also offers some versatility in different lineups and when factoring in the previously mentioned attributes, that frames her to be the # 1 player at the position.

Athena comes onto the rankings after not being seen in the last update. The 5’9 multifaceted wing brings a refreshing 2-way efficient playstyle that was highly successful overseas and has made it translate this season at PSA. Thompson is regularly guarding the opposing team’s best offensive perimeter players. She makes it a tough day for anyone going up against her and she’s even productive herself on the offensive end too. Athena has had multiple 20+ point games, including a 34-point one vs, Darrow so far. It’s rare to see such a natural 2-way talent that’s works in a functional fashion. Simply put, Athena is one of the best overall players and that’s why she’s sitting as the #10 player in the class.

Athena has had a wonderful first week to the season, especially as a fresh transfer. Thompson came straight from over the waters and has made an instant statement in New England so far. In a game vs Darrow, Athena scored 20 pts, 6 reb and 5 steals in an overtime battle where she led the team to a hard-fought victory. She then followed that performance up with a 2-game stretch of games where she averaged over 30 pts, 6 reb and 6 steals. Athena led PSA over Newman in another overtime win; she was a key feature in that win as well. What’s absurd about all of this is, Thompson has been primarily guarding the other team’s best players and finding success. She’s a stellar isolation defender on the top scorers, but also an incredibly valuable help defender. Keep an eye on where Athena could land in the upcoming ’26 rankings after some of these stately performances.
