Ava has the handles and downhill burst to score layups and she shoots with excellent balance off the dribble. Ava gave the Eagles a boost by drilling two triples and adding a smooth mid-range jumper off the dribble. She poured in eight points for Hartland and would be a solid addition to a college program.

Ava chipped in clutch perimeter shots for Hartland at the Swartz Creek Showcase and was a huge reason why the Eagles earned a victory. Ava caused a held ball on defense, buried a wing 3, and added two corner 3s. She tacked on a free throw and handled the ball with poise, earning All-Showcase Second Team Honors.

Ava has battled back from injury and looks as good as ever heading into her senior season. Ava has shifty handles and blows by defenders off the dribble to score layups in traffic. She is an efficient 3-point shooter off the dribble and a scrappy defender who creates steals with her pressure. Ava is an effective court general who creates offense for teammates and sets a standard for excellence in the classroom with a 4.3 GPA. She will be an All-Conference candidate in 2024 and an impact player for the Eagles.

Ava looked to be in peak form in week one at the Cage Fall League as she confidently created separation with her dribble and attacked defenders to score downhill. Ava combined a quick crossover dribble series to blow by her defender and draw a foul, buried both free throws. Ava cut hard to the basket off the ball and caused steals with her quick lateral defense. One of her best plays happened when she used a low rip sweep, beat her defender easily off the dribble, and converted the and-one layup at the rim.

Ava has battled injuries but is back in peak form. She looked outstanding at Michigan Vice practice and was one of the best guards on the court. Her downhill burst, 3-point accuracy, and scrappy defense make her a prospect I’d enjoy seeing compete at The Expo.

Ava had a great showing at the GVSU team camp with her Hartland team. She is intense on the defensive end of the court, challenging her opponents the entire length of the court. She showed some athleticism by getting a block on a much taller player. Mckaig moves well without the ball and knocked down a few shots behind the arc. Look for a big senior year for Ava!

McKaig is a poised point guard who accelerates the pace while staying in control. She has impressive court vision and always keeps her head up to find a teammate during fast breaks. She was recognized as a top defender. SVSU college players coached the 5×5 teams, and when prompted by their coach, she was chosen as a top performer.

Mckaig was the first name that Coach Pruett mentioned as a defensive stopper, and I definitely agreed. She caused havoc on the defensive side throughout the camp, creating deflections and getting steals during the 3×3 and 5×5 sessions. She was also one of the most solid defenders during the defensive portion of the camp.

Ava McKaig has battled through tremendous circumstances to overcome injury and I was very pleased to see her competing on the court again at practice for Michigan Vice 2025. Ava and Kayla arrived first for practice and she warmed up with her own ball doing form shooting around the basket. She scored layups effectively with both hands while running at full speed during the transition passing drill. Ava throws quick passes with soft hands and even used a no-look dish during the 3 on 2 drill. Ava works hard defensively, she denied the post entry and deflected the pass away for a steal; she aggressively guarded the ball to deflect and steal another pass. Ava attacked a defender then created space with her dribble to score a mid-range pull up jumper and had the body control to attack on a drive and leap up over the top to make a pass for an assist. Ava scored multiple mid-range jumpers, hit a wing 3, and blew by her defender with a left drive to draw a foul during the scrimmage. She sealed strong in the low post and battled for offensive rebounds. Ava is a breakout candidate for Hartland this winter and an outstanding CG prospect (MOI, Pre-Med).

McKaig has a ton of upside and should draw the interest of plenty of college coaches in her high school career. Good point guards have to be intelligent. Well, McKaig’s off the court intelligence definitely transfers to the court as well. She can get out in transition and is a smart finisher that’s willing to come to a jump stop, let the defense pass, and finish. McKaig is a physically strong player that can play through contact.
