Expert Analysis
Ally McGinnis | Prep Girls Hoops Scout
Swanson shined in both the 5-on-5 and 3-on-3 games on Sunday. With a lengthy build and fluid athleticism, the 5’11 wing stood out first-thing Sunday morning. Ava has a keen understanding of how to space the floor, both in transition and in the half court. At the showcase she read the floor, making cuts filling in the gaps to keep the offense flowing smoothly. Swanson, a capable scorer, knocked down several shots from beyond the arc, scored in transition, and showed off her unselfish passing, wracking up assists as she fed the ball to her teammates.

Ava has improved substantially over the past year or so and that really showed at the Freshman Showcase. She is a tremendous natural athlete with the kind of length and quickness that can be really impactful at both ends of the floor. Her understanding and execution of defensive concepts has grown a lot. Offensively, Ava has a sweet shooting motion and can bury threes at a high rate and we’d love to see her take more shots. As her confidence has grown, Swanson has become more assertive at attacking the basket. This is an athlete with plenty of potential who is just getting started.
