Expert Analysis
Tony Ragulen | Prep Girls Hoops Scout
Towne demonstrated true toughness and grit during the ID Camp. After rolling her ankle early in the first game, I nearly thought she was finished for the day. However, she returned late in the second half, determined to make an impact – and she delivered. She kept her head on a swivel, finding streaking teammates for easy baskets and showing a nice touch from outside. Her ability to quickly switch from offense to defense in transition led to several steals, creating numerous scoring opportunities for her team. At the end of the showcase, I told her how impressive it was that she got back out there, and her response was, “I had no choice, I wanted to play.” Enough said.

Sydney continues to build on her breakout effort at the PGH Freshmen Showcase last fall, where she wowed scouts with her athleticism, intensity, and leadership. The 5’8 guard nearly made the Freshmen 50 in October and now she’s officially in as the highest-rated newcomer in the 2028 rankings. Towne has been dominant every time we’ve watched her this spring. She plays with relentless energy, finishes through contact, rebounds with grit, and commands attention on the floor. Intelligent, coachable, and tough, Sydney has to be considered a scholarship-level prospect.

Sydney delivered a virtuoso performance on Sunday, impressing our scouts with her actions both on and off the floor. On the floor, Towne is an opportunistic, aggressive, and versatile player. She does a lot of her offensive work close to the rim, whether attacking the paint on a drive or working one-on-one with her back to the basket. Towne also cleans up on the glass, consistently outworking her opponents for rebounds and loose balls. On the bench, she is a vocal cheerleader, even for the teammates she had just met. Unfortunately, the Marshall guard’s day ended with an ankle injury, but she had already done more than enough to make her mark.
