About Avery
Expert Analysis
Evan Bell | Prep Girls Hoops Scout
Avery has a silky smooth jump shot, length, and a robust physical stature that gives opposing guards more than they can handle. She moved to the corner, caught the pass with ease, and found the bottom of the net on a rhythmic three-point shot. Avery ran through passes to eliminate turnovers and keep defenders out of position. When they sent her to the line, Avery knocked down free throws with confidence. She sealed her defender in the paint, took two dribbles with her left, got the help defender to leave her feet with a shot fake, then stretched between the two to score an extremely difficult layup with her off hand. Avery caught a skip pass in the corner, immediately attacked the front foot of a defender closing out to drive by baseline, stopped on a dime, and knocked down a short corner jumper before the help arrived. She ripped the ball away aggressively from the opponent in the backcourt, gathered herself, then went up strong off two feet for the layup. Avery powered through contact for a gritty and one bucket, then completed the three-point play at the line. Avery has excellent handles and is a scoring threat driving to the basket or pulling up from the perimeter. Her skills, versatility, and athletic frame translate to the next level; she was an impressive prospect with 4C Sports Academy 17U at the PGH Great Lakes Region Finals.

Dodge plays with a strong sense of pace, but she is quick and sneaky fast, too. She is a player who knows how to get to her spots, and once she does, there is no hesitation in following through on the decision. She has a strong frame for her height and is not afraid to use it. She can handle the ball baseline to baseline and be just as much of a threat without it. One of those prospects who might just get even better at the next level.

A college frame before entering that level is looked at as an easier path to develop to succeed at the next level. Outside of her frame, Dodge can be impactful from both sides of the ball. Offensively, she can get it going off of rim attacks or stretch the floor and hit those deep shots. A solid playmaker as well. Defensively, she’s active on the boards and has strong instincts in the passing lanes and when she’s guarding on ball.

Was able to see Dodge play a few times this weekend and was impressed every time. While not always the biggest on the court, she always plays like she is. Plays tough and can knock down a sweet jumper.

The Victory Kickoff event was a strong reminder of the motor and energy Avery brings every time she steps on the floor. You can tell she is the enforcer, playing with confidence and edge. On the boards, she simply does not quit, and she has the ability to catch fire from beyond the arc. Definitely one of those players to keep a close eye on this summer.
