The improvement from behind the 3-point line, assertiveness in the lane plus the defensive influence she’s shown makes her an absolute riser within the ranks. Terry’s hard work is being rewarded; she’s currently sittings as a top freshman top scorer in all of MA.

Avery used her size and strength to her advantage, making her difficult to contain around the basket. From the perimeter, she handled the ball well, attacking downhill and using her shoulder to create space in the lane. She played patiently in the midrange, reading the floor before elevating for her shot when open. On the glass, she boxed out with purpose and secured rebounds cleanly, finishing the game with eight points.

Avery had a big impact in AB’s strong defensive showing against Newton North, recording 6 of the team’s 21 combined blocks and steals. She finished that game with 18 points and 6 rebounds while also shooting the ball well from three, finding open space and getting her shot off quickly. She has excellent hands on defense, consistently picking pockets, and is comfortable handling the ball in transition, where she can finish through contact. Earlier in December, she showed her defensive upside again with a 9-steal performance against Shrewsbury.

Avery’s length proved to be problematic for opponents on both ends of the floor. On defense, she uses that length to disrupt passing lanes and come up with steals. Offensively, once Avery catches the ball near the hoop, it’s almost a guaranteed basket. I was impressed that she’s only a freshman, and she clearly has a very bright future ahead of her.
