Azariah Spurgeon Azariah Spurgeon 5'7" | PG Cosby | 2028 State TN , in her sophomore season, showcased an extremely talented game for a guard.

Spurgeon, as a PG, is often guarding the other team’s primary ball-handler. She does a great job at this, and when a turnover by the opposing team takes place, because of her defensive assignment, she is often the player who leads the charges in fast breaks. In these situations, she does a great job at assessing how to attack the basket. One game where this was highlighted was against Fluton High School, where she had four fast-break buckets.

She was cut off by a defender on one transition opportunity and pulled up and made a midrange jumper. In another fast break, she made a layup with a defender in front of her by using a eurostep move.

Fulton is also an above-average rebounder for a guard and is more than capable of lacing in 3-pointers.

In an extremely close, back and forth affair with Legacy Girls P32, Spurgeon made play after play with few sets or plays being called for her. She just went out and got it done. She was extremely active and showed great athleticism impacting the game on plays all over the court. She was able to get her hands on the basketball by creating steals, grabbing offensive rebounds, and out hustling everyone else on the court for loose balls. When she did have the basketball in her hands, Spurgeon showed some very crafty skill work on 2-3 very difficult finishes she converted around the rim- one with each hand. Spurgeon has very good size and as is a strong player who isn’t afraid to get physical in the paint with bigger players. Her work rate was very high, as was her skill level and her competitiveness. Azariah is definitely a player I look forward to seeing again.

In just her freshman year, Spurgeon showcased a highly skilled playstyle. One thing that jumps our right away is the great mechanics she has on her jumper. She displayed these textbook mechanics lead points in a game against Unaka High School last season. In the game she knocked down four threes.

Spurgeon can also create off the dribble. If she sees a gap, she can push the pace and has high-level footwork to get around defenders and score when she makes her way to the painted area. She is also a gifted passer at the PG position.

This 2028 recently picked up her first offer from Walter State and after watching her again at the Elite 80, I know it is the first of many to come! She’s a versatile athlete that plays extremely hard on both ends of the floor. She’s consistent with the mid-range shot. Azariah showcased a nice crossover with the ability to stop on a dime. She does a great job rebounding on both ends. She provided her team with numerous extra possessions with the offensive boards she hauled in. This kid is definitely one to continue to watch!
