Expert Analysis
Marissa Rimbert | Prep Girls Hoops Scout
Byrd understands timing to get on the boards and rebound. She isn’t afraid to body up and carve out space. She secures the ball high and uses a quick step to get inside positioning, often going to a shot fake before powering back up. Offensively, she shows touch with a high-arching jumper and can create separation with a strong step-back, knocking it down with confidence. Constantly moving without the ball is a key factor that separates her as well.

#14 Byrd took me back to one of the first articles I wrote about her see evaluation here and one of the things that caught my eye was her doing things instinctively as well as how she reacted in tough situations. That poise under pressure told me a lot and her “on the court” progression over the years has been something to see. She understands how to set the defender up to either score off the dribble or drop the mid to long-range. Her court vision in the set, as well as in transition is solid, plus she can defend both in the half and full-court

Byrd has always been poised beyond her years and watching her fly early now has her soaring. Her court vision in transition, in the set as well as off the dribble, was impressive, but so were her acrobatic finishes as she defied gravity times yet she also created her shot to drop the mid to long-range, step back looked good and so did her defense

Byrd has been flying since I first saw her I guess 3 years ago yet as her game continues to soar, there is no telling how high she will climb during her high school career. She’s strong off the dribble and finishes after contact yet she also does a good job of creating her shot to drop the mid to long-range. Her “on the ball” pressure has gotten better, she’s even rebounding over taller players
