The type of game that Carlee Johnston Carlee Johnston 5'6" | PG Westwood | 2028 IA competes with is noteworthy to anyone who is evaluating, who used to compete in this sport as a Guard because she does the little things correctly, she is a fundamental player on both sides of the ball who relies on her skill and not just being athletic, and she understands the game at a really high rate for the Class level comparatively. Westwood was a tough matchup for most last season because of their domination out of the Post but that will be gone this Winter so it’s going to be up to players like Johnston to step back in and lead the charge by example. Something that shouldn’t be anything new for the veteran PG at this point in her career life Johnston. This was a Top PG in the Western Valley Conference last Winter and that will be the case once again this season.

It’s time for Carlee Johnston to step up as, “The Girl”, at Westwood High School. Johnston, the 5’6 PG, was a constant last season. She averaged just under 12 PPG and she dished out 3.2 APG. This group had another leader in her Senior year, that ended up leading the team in most positive statistical categories but Johnston was right behind her in everything and now that the Senior has graduated – it’s time for Johnston to step up to make some meaningful plays throughout this Winter season. She has already proven that she can produce. She just needs to show us how far she can take it now with the team on her back. She will have some help on both ends but when the clock is running down or this group needs a huge moment to win a game – it’s going to come down to Johnston and the type of play she can make.

Carlee Johnston Carlee Johnston 5'6" | PG Westwood | 2028 IA of Westwood High School demonstrated what it meant to be a pass-first PG last Winter for her squad. Johnston doesn’t kill you with crazy flashy moves or anything like that. She kills you with the basics. She can handle under pressure at a consistent rate, she understands that her main job is to make the others around her more successful in one way or another, she can control pace of play of the game, and ultimately – she is just someone you can trust from a coaching perspective. She isn’t a liability and she isn’t going to make bone-headed mistakes. Which is really all you can ask for from a coaching perspective. There is a lot to like about Johnston. I’m sure she will be a name we hear about consistently this Winter at Westwood High School.
