Simmie Colson | Prep Girls Hoops Scout
#35 up from #45
Caver turned out to be the CLOSER throughout the season and her being able to put her squad on her back several times helped them reach the championship game for the state title. Her acrobatic finishes and outside shooting kept them close. She leaves her mark by making the All-Tournament squad after an outstanding high school career but I saw it coming, even when I used to call her “The Baby”

Caver helped get things going early by dropping jumpers yet she’s battles tested in these types of games starting with her freshman season with Hardin Jefferson

Caver is a strong stocky guard. She has a strong presence on the floor. Pressure defense did not phase her. She sees the floor really well, and is an x factor in breaking the full court press. She plays with a mature and developed understanding of the game. In the half court game, Caver is extremely patient but once she engages attack mode it is full throttle. With a quick first step, she can blow by you but she also has a beautiful three point shot. She shoots and makes the three with ease.

Caver impressed me so much the first time I caught her at an Individual Showcase that I asked “what high school will you be attending” and she responded “I’m only in the 7th grade” so after that, I teasingly started calling her The Baby. I had to change that to “BABY NO MORE” as she made the transition in high school easily, first with Hardin Jefferson and has been a huge key to the Hurricanes success since coming on board. She heady, runs the combo well but watching her create her shot from the wing and take the defender off the dribble and drop the midrange, after the lick was my “shot of the night” to see

Caver impressed me the first time I saw her as I thought the 7th grader was heading to high school as she was giving “IT” to players heading to the next level so her “poise under pressure” has always been there and watching her elevate her game all around has been a treat for me. She can set the defender up in the set to drop the jumper, she also can nail the stop and pop in transition yet her body control on her finishes as well as court vision has gotten better
