Claire has been on a tear this year. She has emerged as the clear leader on her young Wahpeton team. She will be an All-Region selection and critical to her team when tournament time comes around. She has shown she can stretch the floor now from deep, recently hitting multiple three-pointers to start the game against Central Cass. Claire is a forward who can truly play inside or out. She has a soft touch around the basket and continues to gain confidence with each game. Look out – she is only a sophomore.

The Woods name is synonymous for success down in Wahpeton. Claire is a top returner and will be in contention for an All-Region selection this season. She impresses me with her mobility. You wouldn’t think someone as strong as Claire would be as light on her feet as she is. She can thrive from down low or at the high post, areas her older sister dominated. I anticipate Claire having the ball in her hands a ton this season and being one of Wahpeton’s top two scorers.

Claire is someone I see becoming one of the focal points of Wahpeton these next three seasons. She was able to earn valuable varsity minutes this past season but I anticipate her role expanding immensely going forward. She is a strong 5’10 with feet that are very light. She has a very nice touch around the rim and the strength to bully opponents and get to the free-throw line at will. She is definitely a college basketball prospect.

Claire is a very intriguing player and someone I am interested to watch next season. She has great footwork and a very nice touch around the rim. I like her shooting form and think she has potential to become a three-point threat. Here are some comments from Coach Watson:

Claire is going to be a force in Region 1 for the next three seasons. She has a great frame for a power forward and uses her strength effectively down low. She has quick enough feet where she can move laterally well enough to keep up with quicker opponents. She has good footwork offensively and a nice soft touch around the rim. She has a nice shooting form and I predict she will be a deep threat going forward in her career.

Claire has great upside as a freshman playing key varsity minutes for a talented Wahpeton team. She is a big body who has agile feet and good footwork around the rim. I like how soft her touch is on her shots near the basket and she gets a nice arc on her jump shots as well. Claire is a very coachable player and someone who has a strong desire to be great. I know Claire is going to keep working hard and continue to improve as she grows older. She is going to be needed to fill some big time shoes next year: her older sister’s!
