Expert Analysis

Dacota leaves Valley City as a two-time state champion. She is going to bring that winning mindset to her home town college, Valley City State University. This is a great fit for the athletic guard. Her ability to slip past defenders to the basket will transfer nicely to the NAIA level. Potratz is a lengthy defender with good anticipation. She was key to Valley’s defensive gameplans and really good in the full-court press. She was a consistent scorer as well. Dacota was huge in the back-to-back state title games!

The Hi-Liners just might repeat as state champions in 2025-2026 with talented players like Potratz on their roster. Dacota is a skilled lefty with good size and strength. If I was Valley City State University, I would offer Dacota right now. It is important for smaller 4-year schools to keep local talent. She is really good defensively and can rebound with bigger girls by the basket. Dacota should be a repeat All-Region player this season.

Valley City won the Class A title last year due to having many long, lengthy, and athletic players. Docata fits that description to a ‘T’. She is a slippery lefty who is hard to stop going to the basket with her strong hand. She is a physical guard who can defend bigger or smaller girls. I really liked her effort defensively last season; she contributed to a high-flying press defense that created a ton of turnovers for easy baskets. Docata is a solid prospect who can play at the next level.

Dacota had a special season for the Hi-Liners, helping lead her team to a State Championship. She was voted onto the All-Region team as well. She is a long lefty that seems to find her way past defenders to get to the rim. Her size and physicality allows her to finish strong by the basket. Her size and arm length greatly contribute to Valley’s tough defense. She had a great season and will be looking to improve upon the success she had this season going forward.

I really like watching Dacota play. She is a ‘slippery’ type of player, meaning she finds ways to slip past defenders to gain advantages offensively. She is a big, athletic player who can get to the rim. She is a lefty, which is an advantage in itself in high school basketball. She can score, defend, and shoot from the perimeter.

Dacota is a nice utility player for the Hi-Liners. She is capable of having a big night scoring, but doesn’t need to in order to have an effective game and help her team win. She is an athletic guard/forward who can defend multiple positions and is great in Valley City’s full-court press. She is a crafty lefty who is great at getting to her strong hand and is also very good at dishing down to teammate Katie Burchill Katie Burchill 5'11" | PF Valley City | 2027 State ND . Dacota was an All-Region selection last year and is well on her way to being selected again this season.

I was really impressed with Dacota. She is a tall, long, and athletic guard. Dacota, an All-Region selection from last season, averaged 9.2 points per game and 5.1 assists as a sophomore. She is a physical presence in Valley’s defense and had a couple of really great blocks. She is able to plug up driving lanes with her size. She shoots the ball well, making multiple 3 pointers. She also is crafty getting to the rim. Look for Dacota to once again be an All-Region selection this season.
