About Gabriela
How would you briefly describe your gameplay style?
My game is the one which does not show up on the stat sheet, but the one that every coach knows they need on the floor! Everything with me starts with defense and builds out from there. Do you need someone to mark and neutralize or disrupt one of the other team's star players? That's the job I get! I'll box out, dive on the floor for balls, shuffle around tracking players until my feet hurt!
Can you provide a brief description of your mentality or personality?
I love the phrase, "Athletes chase stats, teammates chase wins". When my team does well, I feel great. When I do great but the team fails, I do not feel any joy. The only thing I can 100% control is myself and my responsibility to my teammates is to take care of my business! I have high expectations of myself. I like to be liked by others and can often find something in common with everyone.
Are you involved in any clubs, organizations, or have you received any non-sport awards?
FBLA: Future Business Leaders of America
What skills or qualities have you developed, such as leadership, teamwork, or community service?
Personal accountability for the things I need to be in control of. My homework, my sleep, my exercise and my schedule. Being vocal with my team and in the classroom. Volunteering at local food pantry and my church. A clean room = a clean mind. Practicing the way I want to play. Asking for academic help before I am struggling. Great grades are a requirement for success NOT a nice to have thing!
What type of college are you looking for?
I am early in the process of finding the right fit for me with a college, so I'd say I'm keeping a very open mind at the moment. I can say however that I love a sense of community and a school having an identity (and not just a name) and a sense of pride for who they are. I want the school to not only be a way for me to play a sport and grow academically, but one where it becomes part of who I am
