Carlson will be a major draw this year for Glenbard North, and her ability to score at all levels will be key to that. She isn’t afraid of the traffic, doesn’t shy away from contact, and will let it go from DEEP. The defense, however, is what I believe will bring the recruiting calls… she’s a pest and plays with high energy and awareness. As the ball handling gets tighter.. she can slide into the PG position when necessary.

Isabel put on a scoring clinic on Sunday. She was making shots from all three levels, but her 3-point shooting might have been most impressive. Isabel connected on at least two 3-pointers in each of the three games she played on Sunday. And scored in double figures in two of her games.

Isabel knows how to take a heat check. She scored 8 straight points in her final game of the day, and she never passed up the chance at a deep ball. But she can do it at all 3 levels. She goes hard to the cup, and can make a contested layup. And no matter where she is on the floor, she shoots the ball with supreme confidence.

Isabel prides herself on finding her shot, as well as spotting open teammates.

Isabel put on a tremendous scoring showcase during this weekend’s event. One of the top scorers of the weekend, she has a deep well of skills to draw from.

She showed an innate ability to score at all 3 levels; she goes hard to the cup and can make contested layups. And she never hesitates to pull the trigger on an open 3-pointer. In one game, she capitalized on a heat check, scoring 8 straight points in the midst of a 12-point showing.

Isabel scored at least two 3-pointers in each of her team’s games. She tells me that she’s focusing on getting downhill and finishing from different angles.

“Isabel Carlson of Breakaway 16U has a great feel for the game as a PG. She can handle, she knows when to attack, she can defend her own possession at a steady rate, and she mainly makes great choices when the rock is in her possession. She stays aggressive as she looks to get down hill on offense and she knows how to finish when she gets near the bucket. All in all, great showing this weekend in multiple contests throughout.”

Isabel Carlson had a really solid start to her weekend as her team’s starting PG. She didn’t do too much but just enough, if that makes sense. She got her team in order, she took opportunities when they presented themselves, she played really solid defense, and she didn’t make stupid mistakes down the stretch of any of her team’s contests so far. From a coaching perspective, this is one of those players you’d love to work with. She would be PG #1 in a lot of programs and we saw glimpses of that all day long.

Carlson is one of those players who just enjoys playing the right way. She drives and kicks, spreads the court, and rarely seemed to get nervous when she was getting doubled.

I like the way she runs the show for them at times, she is a strong on ball defender with quick hands and is a heady player. All these kids in this age group have a long way to go to reach the next level, but she’s on her way! She plays for Breakaway.
