The second of the three Greenville commitments came from Lorick – the team’s resident 5-foot-9 small forward. The Red Raiders announced on its social media that Lorick will be heading to Division II Erskine in Due West for her NCAA career. Lorick visited – and was offered by – Erskine back in October. Lorick concluded her high school career by putting up numbers that solidified why the Flying Fleet would have her on their radar. Lorick competed in 22 games for the Red Raiders and averaged 8.2 rebounds along with scoring 7.2 points. She also added 1.3 blocks per game to her 2023-24 resume as well. Prior to playing at Greenville, she wore the orange and black of 3A (soon to be 4A) Southside.

Lorick is a viable option for the Lady Tigers setting up shop out on the wing as a shooter. She really does a good job of setting her feet and receiving the ball in the pocket. Jakayla constantly plays very active away from the ball while on the floor. She has no problems defending on the ball with good ball pressure at times.

We move from one J.L. to another J.L. and neither one has anything to do with J.L. Mann HS (more on the 5A Patriots later). Listed at 5-foot-7, Lorick primarily plays at the two while also finding minutes in the frontcourt as a three. She gets after it on either the offensive or defensive glass and bolsters an offense with what she gets accomplished as a ball distributor. Lorick also has the ability to penetrate to the basket or set up shop near the wing. She stays active on both defense and offense and stays moving even if the ball is not in her hands. Lorick was a major reason for Southside’s deep run to the 3A Upper State Final and the Tigers should be one of the teams to beat in that class once again in 2022-23.
