Expert Analysis
Danyle Bowers | Prep Girls Hoops Scout
Janiah, a senior guard for Northview, is the definition of a do-it-all player, impacting the game in every phase. Athletic and long, she uses her length on the defensive end to disrupt passing lanes, come up with steals, and even block shots from the perimeter. Her presence alone makes opponents think twice about attacking her side of the floor. Offensively, she’s more than capable of knocking down shots from beyond the arc, stretching the defense and keeping it honest. She also rebounds extremely well for a guard, battling on the glass and creating extra possessions. Janiah’s versatility and all-around production make her a key piece for Northview this season.

Janiah was a First Team All-Tournament selection at the PGH State Tournament. She’s a versatile prospect with handles and skills to play guard, while also possessing the strength, length, and physicality to play inside as a forward. Janiah is an effective slasher and facilitator who creates matchup problems for defenses. She’d be an excellent addition to The Expo.

Janiah was one of the best guards in the gym at our PGH Michigan State Tournament. Her playmaking in multiple areas led MBA UA Rise 2026 to the Championship game, turning heads in the process. Janiah secured many offensive rebounds with a relentless effort that ended with her scoring or at the free-throw line. She glided past defenders and changed hands quickly to finish efficiently around the basket. Janiah kept her eyes up when driving downhill and dished passes to open teammates for assists. She created steals with her active defense and split defenders with a burst to score layups off the dribble. In the finals, Janiah grabbed offensive boards, split defenders to score an acrobatic layup, and finished a backdoor cut layup off two feet. She snagged steals and made the opponent work on offense. Janiah had an outstanding weekend and earned All-Tournament First Team honors.

Janiah had a monster first day at our PGH Michigan State Tournament for MBA UA Rise 2026. She slashed downhill to score continuous layups off the dribble and was lethal on the offensive glass. Janiah scored many offensive rebound put-backs with both hands at the rim. She dished a give-and-go, then finished her cut with a quick left-handed layup off two feet. Janiah crossed over her defender and accelerated to score a layup off two feet. She swiped the ball away on defense and finished the play with a pizza-pie layup going full speed. I wrote extensively in my notes about the several instances where Janiah made a sudden transfer of the ball to score layups, driving to the basket. Her floaters, handles, rebounding, and finishing efficiency were phenomenal, which is why Janiah was one of the best guards in the gym.

Janiah impressed me with her leaping ability and out-muscled everyone for rebounds. We have her listed as a small forward (SF), but she played positions 1 through 5 for her Northview team. She has good ball-handling skills and can make accurate passes during fast breaks. She also demonstrated strong finishing abilities around the basket and made a couple of three-pointers. I’m excited to watch more of her games this fall and winter.
